Laptop trouble, advice needed.

Featured Replies

I have a two year old Packard Bell laptop which is just starting to play up.

I noticed the screen flicker yesterday but didn't think much of it. Today it went mental. I found if I move the lid/screen it starts flickering so I wobbled the hinge a bit more and that's when it died. It just sat there with very thin vertical lines all over the screen. The lines were a mixture of light green and black on a sort of off white background. I couldn't see the mouse/pointer either.

I've just started it back up again and it's now back to normal. I don't want to do anymore wobbling until I have all my documents/photos off of it.

Any ideas? Is it new laptop time?

spelling.

Inverter maybe ???

ebay the model number and add inverter to get an idea of price, are you any good with a screwdriver ???

It's the cabling from the motherboard to the screen that's at fault.

This is probably replaceable if you are handy with a screwdriver and can get the parts

The cable may have even just worked loose and need re-seating.

Agreed, and remember that you can probably hook an external VGA monitor up to it to help you back up the content without fear of breaking it further.

+2. What they said, probably the wiring that runs from the system board to the screen being crimped or worn.

Unlikely but try plugging in an external monitor and wiggle the screen. If OK, system board good, no loose screws, connectors. And lappy screen, cable, or connector at fault. HTH

Thanks for the help gents. Sound like there's hope. I'll have a go at taking it apart next time it goes wrong. At the mo it's working ok again. I've transferred all documents to an external HD so i'm ready to go:thumbup:
