Octavia Noises

Featured Replies

1.There is a noise in the "ceiling"(not sure how to call it),that piece that covers the roof on the interior. The sound comes from the back-left side. How can I fix this?

2.A noise from the engine timing belt when I first start the car in the morning. It's like "fss-fss-fss",and it dissapears when the engine warms up.The Timing Belt has 4 years and only 37.000 miles.I had this noise before and a guy from Skoda Service used a spray on the belt, but now, after 10.000 miles I can gear again the sound.Any idea where can I find such a spray?

3.I installed a cruise control stalk, but I got pretty confused using the manual. And now the steering wheel is not in the 0 position when the wheels are,and beside that, the steering wheel is touching the plastic cover covering the stalk.Any idea how can I "reset" the steering wheel?

4.I got a rattling noise at exactly 2000rpm,a metalic noise that comes from the engine, can't tell exactly where from.I'm pretty scared about this sound.

5.I also got a noise that can be heard even at the smallest bump,a noise coming from the windshield,it's a noise like a glass is touching a plastic panel.

6.Another noise that is coming from the trunk.Actually...I think it comes from that piece that is covering the trunk when you close the tailgate. The piece that is hanging from the tailgate when this one is open.

7.And the last one.Maybe you noticed,or maybe not,but when you close the windows(at least at the electric ones),the window goes up,and when it reaches his top position,it is pushed a little bit to the exterior of the car,so that the window will push on those rubber strips to reduce the noise coming from the outside. Now,my noise is only coming when the window is being pushed outwards,it's a cracking noise.

If you have any idea or suggestions for any of these problems let me know.Thank you.

3. take the wheel off and put it back on with the correct alignment

4. heatshield maybe

6. Remove the "prisoner" from the boot. In reality you have answered your own question

7. Never experienced that. Maybe your window glass is not in correct alignment.

Which model do you have?

2. Never heard of anyone spraying something on the cambelt. Are you sure it wasn't the auxilliary drive belt?

7. Sounds like a broken clip on the window regulator.

1) Sorry; no idea, and not sure anyone else will have either.

2) As RWB. Also, after 4 years the cambelt needs inspecting for wear, or replacing, anyway.

3, 4, 6 and 7) As MBAmes.

5) There should be a parking ticket clip on the RH A post. This should touch the windscreen when not in use. If it doesn't, try packing it with some cardboard.

I'm sure it's the cambelt,that guy used a spray...but I can't remember it's name :|

Regarding the wheel,I would like to put it back on with the correct alignment, but I don't know the correct procedure.

KenONeill, the first noise is a very common one,I know about 5 forum friends from my country that have the same problem.it looks like it is caused by some wires underneath that material that covers the roof on the inside part of it.The material that is covering the part of the roof that is over our heads.

Is an Octavia I,Elegance model,ALH 1.9 TDI

The spray you refer to is called 'Belt Dressing Spray' and it is used on flat/V belts to stop squealing. I've not seen it used on toothed cambelts.

Occasionaly, the aerial or it's cable can make noises that come from (or appear to come from) the headliner. First, check that the aerial itself is not broken.

The spray name was something like that, anyway,I'll change the belt very soon.

Regarding the aerial,it isn't broken, but I'm very sure that the noise is coming from come cables, and now I'm pretty sure it's the aerial cable.Any idea how to remove that piece of "carpet" to reach the cable, and how to stick it back?

The headliner is a PITA to remove. You need to remove all the trim (and grab handles) in contact with it until you can get your hand in. I've known someone who injected glue through the headliner to avoid removing it.

3.I will try to fix the wheel problem tomorrow.

5.I discovered that this noise was caused by that panel under the wheel because it was touching the door,I'll have a look tomorrow and I will fix it.

6.That noise in the trunk is caused by the trunk lock,I used a spray on that lock and the sound has almost disappeared, but I'll have a look tomorrow,I'll disassemble it and I'll oil the whole mechanism.

  • 2 weeks later...

I thought these cars all had moulded headliners?

I've just started getting a noise very silimar to number 2. Thought it sounded like the power steering to start with, topped it up and it's still there.

The chap who serviced my 03 Octy 1 vRS with 72k at the time told me the belt didnt get serviced yet? Seemed odd to me, but he assured me he's checked the manufacturers guidance.

guidelines changed for the belt, now 60k (or 3 years, iirc) rather than 80k
