Fault code 17544

Featured Replies

Engine light came on tonight, borrowed a mates fault code reader and it said 17544 which after a bit of searching I think means I have a air leak/split hose to find. Anybody got any suggestions where to start? There is a noticeable whistling but I can't pin it down. Been a good week so far. Took it in for 2 tyres and had to have 4:eek: £280 lighter now.

With the engine running have you tried waggling the rubber pipes under the engine cover?

Likely suspects are under the black plate at the front of engine near the dipstick. Also the Y pipe on top of the engine.

Thanks to all. I'll have a look at the pipes in daylight as I couldn't see much with a torch

I had exactly the same fault code

Both karlbar2k and martziniuk are correct because all 3 pipes had pretty much disintegrated on my car!

The top inverted Y shaped breather pipe had exploded and split. The hose which comes off the bottom right of the inverted Y hose had rotted away at both ends.

If you follow this hose to its end it connects to a T junction. The front hose coming away from the T junction which leads to just behind the dipstick had also disintegrated!!

These hoses are really cheap and nasty (bad Skoda/Audi/VW/Seat) and are not designed to last at all. My car has done 76000 miles so I'll let them off.

Replaced all these hoses and my car is absolutely amazing again. The extra power these crap hoses produce is ridiculous; it's like a new car. It's quicker and smoother.

I got all the hoses from my local Skoda garage, cost around £70 total

Check out this link to Awesome GTi. They provide these hoses but they are higher quality. There is also a good diagram which I printed off to show to Skoda exactly what hoses I wanted.

Awesome > Awesome 1.8T Silicone Replacement Breather Pipes (pair)

Wish I'd got the Awesome hoses now because the Skoda (Audi stamped on them) version are really cheap.

Hope this helps

Steve
