60k Home Service?

Featured Replies

It's coming time to do the 60k service of my mk1 vRS. It is currently set on the variable service path but I intend to start changing the oil and filter every 10k.

I'm getting the cambelt and water pump done as part of the 'home' service but according to the Haynes manual there is little else to do at 60k not even spark plugs which I found weird??? Or have I completely misread the manual!!!

With things like plugs and air filters they are relatively cheap so I halve the recommended interval on them. In my mind it can't do any harm to change them more often and potentially keep the car running that little bit sweeter.

Can't remember how much I paid for the filter and plugs but when you take the fitting charge out of the equation its nowt in the grand scheme of things.

So what exactly needs doing then obviously the:-

  • Cambelt & Water pump
  • Oil Filter & Oil
  • Spark Plugs

.... I've seen that certain places replace the fuel filter too?

edit - is it worth doing the gear box oil at this stage?
