SERVICE NOW indicator problem

Featured Replies

Hello guys, I have a 02 Skoda L&K AGU 1.8T engine and I have a small problem with my SERVICE NOW digital indicator light on the center panel.

Here in my country I have to make oil change every 5,000kms so when the odometer is close to the next 5,000KMs the Center indicator panel says for example 1,000 kms next to the Service and when the odometer get to that 5,000Kms the Center indicator panel says SERVICE NOW.

Well here is my problem, At 20,000KMs I took the car for oil service and everything went OK but when the car was around 21,000KMs the Center indicator panel turn on and was saying SERVICE NOW, so I took the car to the dealer and with me there they hook up the VAG tool and scan to check for a problem. They do not found any code or problem in the memory so they toll me that maybe the mechanic that reset the computer at 20,000Kms not adjust correctly the VAG to turn on at 25,000KMs. So they reset the computer and adjust the thing. Today to my surprise the Center indicator panel turn on again and was saying SERVICE NOW the car only have 21,567KMs.

I call the dealer and talk with the same mechanic that adjust it at 21,000KMS and toll him I experice the same problem again. So he was like not know what it can be thge problem and toll me to bring the car again.

So I am curious. Have any of you have experience a similar problemo??? What can it be the problem or the part they need to fix??? Do the service now light only turn on for oil service or it can indicate another malfuntion?

THX,

Isaac

Isaac, variable or fixed servicing?

Hey Mannyo, whats up? I really dont know what to answer. Every 5,000 kms my center display remember me to take the car for service oil. My Wife also have a 01 Skoda Combi 1.6i and is the same.

At the firts 5K works ok then at the 10K work OK at the 15 work ok but My problem beguin at 20,000 kms. I know they adjust this thing with the VAG tool. I was there when the guy when he set it to remember me at 25000kms.

They do a Scan and there was any malfuntion code registered. Do the service now light only turn on for oil service or it can indicate another malfuntion?

THX,

Isaac

sounds like fixed, its possible to reset the indicator yourself if you follow these instructions. do not do this if on variable because it will mess things up.

switch off ignition,

press reset knob on trip computer and hold it pressed (the message service now or service appears)

Turn the knob for setting the clock to the right and hold till message disappears.

Mannyo, thx, for the tip. Just curious. Do it going to remember me at the 25k for the oil service if I erase it??? I dont want to bother you but do you know why this is happening??

THX,

Isaac

Isaac, as you are having problems with the service indicator and are not on variable servicing, why not use the odometer reading instead?

1) Well because every time I start the engine the panel BEEP:eek: for around 3 sencond to bring my atention to the center panel d

OK, Isaac, I can now see that the warning on the L&K display is more intrusive and annoying than that which non-L&K owners see in their odometer display on startup. Have you tried the manual reset which Manny suggested and, if so, did it get rid of the service indication? And assuming that the mechanic set the service interval correctly with a VAG tool and didn't make the same mistake yet again, it does sound like you might need a new combi-instrument (instrument panel) if the problem continues. (These cost around

Ok, I just reset it:thumbup: .............And the SERVICE NOW disapears. I will wait to see if it come on again before the odometer get to 25K when I have to make the Oil service.

I really dont think the mechanic set the service interval incorrectly the last time I was there with him because that time was the mechanic boss the one that set it with the VAG tool.

Well let see what happend, I will keep you updated if I have again the same situation.

Thank you guys for your help,
