Rear demister causes radio static

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

When i push the rear demister button on my mk1 octavia the radio starts to crackle just like its got bad reception. When i turn the button off all is fine again.

The only thing i can think may cause a problem is the rear screen has about two lines broken which don't work any more.

Check the connections to the heated rear window connections are secure. You might want to temporarily remove one of them. If you still get crackle then it is the wiring and not the demister itself.

Also, check the aerial itself is screwed on tightly and unbroken. Broken/loose aerials pick up more crackles.

A mate at work had a similar problem on his x type jag. A new rear screen fixed it. (under warrenty). Your problem is probably caused by the faulty lines as a connector to window would affect whole window and show signs of over heating.

Ok , thanks

Can anyone tell me if the kits you can buy to fix the rear window wires actually work?

such as this one Rear Window Demister Repair Kit / Car Heated Defogger on eBay, also Cleaning, Waxing Valeting, Car Care, Car Accessories, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 26-Oct-08 20:51:50 GMT)

yeah that is kinda lazy on their behalf, surely it's not that hard just to put a thermal switch in or something.

i'm always forgetting to turn the rear element off, but then again i only ever use it about once a month
