64 bit drivers for OS support still sucks - Shame on you, Canon!

Featured Replies

How long has Vista64 been out? Or rather XP 64 bit edition? A few years, right?

So WTF can hardware manufacturers not provide driver support.

Right now, I'm sticking my ugly finger at Canon who to this date have not released a 64bit driver for my LiDE 30 scanner. It works fine with 32bit, but no 64bit availability.

And whilst Vista is generally pretty good at getting drivers, there's just nothing for this scanner.

Good, now I feel better :o

OK, Sony ;)

Glad you're feeling relieved now :D

It's got too be worth a shot Xav :D:D:D

The one and only reason I don't do 64-bit.

Driver support. Good job too; I have the same scanner :)

If I wasn't too knackered, I'd probably have a go!

Hmm if I have time and still feel the annoyance I'll take it out on some bollywood directing :D

Yay for the healing power of Bollywood:)

But how many home users need 64bit at the moment?

I'd concentrate on getting the 32bit right for the home users (and they are not right yet in many cases) and then only do 64bit drivers for enterprise devices, eg RAID controllers and NICs etc

How old is that scanner Xav,

My dads just bought one of the new canon Lide scanners and he uses vista 64 and it works just fine.

We use 64bit here at home, on both our desktops because we wanted to have all the 4GB system ram available for use, something you cant do with 32bit. The 64bit version flies quiet nicely with 6GB of system ram.

But how many home users need 64bit at the moment?

everyone needs it... 3gb of ram is not enough... and the world still using 32 bit op sys is a bit of a joke..... im still using it cos there is not enough support in games... but it is getting better. MS should stop selling 32 bit home op sys....

Xav.. its not just 64bit.. up until very recently ive never been able to get my LiDE 20 to work in vista... even now it only actually works by installing all of the canon toolbox **** and pressing the scan button on the scanner

Let's just say I'm not holding my breath for 64bit drivers anytime soon, the same **** was the case for the other flavours of the Windows OS for ages, XP being another example where drivers were not available for ages, and nowadays there are loads available.

The simple reason is cost - it just isnt worth it for most manufacturers to bother.
