Octy II vRS TFSI newbie needs guidance

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Picking up my Octavia on Saturday morning - can't wait! I have several questions that I'd really appreciate some help with:-

1) I hear so much about split DVs that I feel inclined to put one of the forge units on in case (car has 30k miles on it) Would that be advisable?

2) I have seen a variety of the satnav factory stereo units being mentioned as upgrades on here and I'm tempted. Which model is the better to go for - I have seen a few used units on ebay for around £370 but wondered if these tend to be iffy?

3) Having had/got tuned cars I'm keen to tweak this car too. I'm thinking of mild stage one mods - induction, exhaust (not sure on catback or full system) and a remap. Am I right in thinking the Revo is the way to go and is there much benefit seen in having the mods I've mentioned with the Revo or are the additional benefits negligible vs. the cost? Does mapping tend to overstress the fuel pump - do you guys tend to replace this?

4) Pretty sure I'll need to change the front discs and pads - what's the recommendation here and typical cost - any preferred sources for these parts?

Many thanks in advance for all your help!

The Forge DV is one of the better optiond on the market however It's not a 100% perfect solution. There has been a recent revision of the OEM DV which might be worth a try. Failing that you can buy the parts to convert to the K04 DV position which IMHO is the better option.

RNS510/Columbus/MFD3 are some of the names you'll hear mentioned for the better of the Nav units. MFD2 is the previous unit which is still very good, there is currently one in the for sale section that is much cheaper than the prices you mention.

Get yourself a stage 1 REVO first, sort out the DV and enjoy it for a while. exhaust and intake can follow, Milltek and EVOMS are well proven.

The OEM fuel pump is a week point but like I say get yourself mapped first and the rest will come in good time.

I see no reason not to use OEM parts for the brakes, they are of good quality.

Do you know when this was introduced. My petrol vRS was built in April, is it likely to have this revised part?

Thanks.

No you'd need to look at the part and read the number from it.

My car came with a "G" DV. The car has been remapped since new (800 miles). It now has 16k on the clock and still ok. I have a Forge DV but decided no to fit until i see how the revised OEM does. I first got a remapp which was a good improvement. I now have the full Milltek, uprated fuel pump. I have fitted an EVOMS but since fitting it i'm detecting a little clutch slip it now has so much power.

Clutch slip?!

Blimey and there was me thinking just how well the standard clutch coped with 330lb/ft :D No issue of that here just to assure the O.P.

Yeah couldn't believe it:thumbdwn: it's only slight though and barely noticable, but i think a slight adjust with the map in the midrange will help, at least i know the EVOMS did add power:cool:

Mickey

I had clutch slip in mine. The only reason it happened was due to having large loads in the car (moving back from germany and then moving from catterick to folkestone) which was stressing the clutch with the extra power.

I had a Sachs one fited and whilst its a bit stiffer on the pedal and has a bit of judder in 1st (trait of uprated clutches apparantly) its outstanding and rated to 390lb/ft iirc.

TBH if you have noticed it now it will only get worse. Mine started off hardly noticeable and not all the time and ended up with the engine rpm increasing by 1500rpm everytime i put my foot down in any gear after a couple of k miles.

Ok, thanks for the replies - I've ordered the forge dumpvalve today and will probably get the revo (have a contact in Notts who should knock some £ off). I'm disappointed to learn it's just a generic flash map for that kind of cash though. Has anyone heard of a RevTek stage 2 as someone I know with the golf TFSI had that instead done by the guy who used to be MD of MoTec!

Happy to go for the standard brakes - any traders that can do better prices that the stealers? What should I be paying for front discs and pads inc VAT?

Thanks again guys - what a nice forum!:D

The REVO is a lot of cash, but it's a proven map on the 2.0T, that said I have had 2 other cars since my vRS and whilst I had REVO on my vRS, I have had both of the other Skoda's done by P-Torque with outstanding results at half the price.

The advantage of REVO on the 2.0T is that it's switchable, and Makefish has a select + switch at a bargain price for sale btw :) and the upgrade to stage 2 is only £50, not another 500 or whatever and you can tweak the map yourself to suit.

For a Mk2 vRS I would give REVO serious consideration, but there are a lot of other options, and whilst I was really happy with my REVO on the Octy, I am just as happy with what P-Torque have done and the graphs (and of course the physical power delivery) are excellent.

Thank you very much for the kind comments!

The P-Torque software produces approx 235 - 245bhp, or we offer an full exhaust/remap package which offer approx 260bhp.

Software only is £325.00 all in, which includes dyno power runs for members

Hi,

This sounds interesting, the 325 remap - is that a generic flash or car specific map? How much is the package with exhaust, what type of exhaust is it and is it full system or catback please? Sorry for the questions but very interested ps I'm more used to evo tuning! Lol

Hi

Our stage 1 software is our pre-developed map designed around the stock set up.

The 260/265bhp package consists of a turbo back exhaust system along with custom mapping.

If you drop me an e-mail I will get the package price over to you in the morning
