Phone button on Columbus/RNS-510/MFD3

Featured Replies

Can someone please tell me what the Phone button does?

Also what functionality is lost if you have the oem bluetooth but not the the multi-function steering wheel?

Cheers

If you press the phone button and have the OEM Bluetooth controller installed (1z type later controller) then you can dial off the screen and pick a contact as well.

It's pretty cool.

As for the MFSW I don't know but I believe voice dialling is possible by pressing the mute button.

If you dont have the skoda phone kit, then the phone button mutes the headunit audio.

For the MFSW, the only thing you lose without one is the voice dialling.

Do you get more information shown for each contact than shown on the maxi-dot display?

Quick Q. about the RNS-510 if I may. Just bought one of ebay (and it works!). I would like an original manual for it, so can anyone who has one tell me the part number for it (on the back cover if its anything like my stream radio) so I can order one from my local dealer.

Cheers, TD

ps. Big thanks for Stu for his guide on how to install it! Cheers Dude!

Not really but it is a damn sight easier. It also picks up if you have stored it as a mobile or home number.

I have just got a vRS with the columbus sat nav installed but it would appear not to have the phone system installed within it.

Does anyone know if this can be retro fitted and at what cost or can it only be fitted when you order the car ?

I have called my dealer and he has promised to come back to me but would appreciate a "real" answer before I get the standard "sorry sir, computer says no !"

It is not a Skoda supplied option in the UK.

VRStu has supplied some via group buys and the like but I believe due to the Euro exchange rate the cost is a little bit prohibitive at the moment.

Ants may be worth a PM.

yes it can be fitted, have a look a vRS stu's website

Massive cost at the moment, because of the € rate, as has been mentioned. So it is possible but £300-400 for a module makes it a no-go, at the moment IMHO.

OMG ! Have just looked at vRS Stu's website.............that's a shed load of work for not that much benefit.

Is the kit £300-400 or is that the cost of kit and installation ?

I think you'll find if you have Columbus it's a great benefit, the guide may seem a little daunting but it isn't really that difficult.

As others have said the current Euro rate means there are cheaper options but obviously they aren't fully integrated.

Sorry I have to totally disagree with that statement - OK I purchased mine when the € rate was much better, but I'd purchase another one if anything happened to mine!

That'sinteresting to hear. May have to look at it in a different light.

Thanks for the input Guys, much appreciated, as always.

Still getting to grips with the system...............there's so much there !

Just a quick question regarding the factory fitted option for the Octavia vRS described as:

' 3 spoke multi-function steering wheel for radio and telephone with bluetooth and paddle shift (DSG only)'.

Is the bluetooth kit here the same as the one supplied by VRStu?

If not what is the difference?

Thanks

Skoda UK won't supply the same kit as Stu. Not sure if their option, the Blue connect, is controllable from the MFSW.

No its not, its basically a small independant bluetooth device that fits into the space in the roof currently occupied by the sunglasses holder. Its nowhere near as good as the official one supplied by Stu, which fully integrates with Maxidot and Columbus. The blueconnect does none of these things.

my 57 plate was ordered with bluetooth phone kit and i got it with a parrot bluetooth kit!
