5th Gear noise

Featured Replies

Hi everybody from the depths of sunny Essex by the sea.

Well, I am hoping someone will be able to point me in the right direction please.

I have a Diesel Skoda Felicia Combi 1999 model and the 5th gear makes a terrible whining noise when engaged.

I've been told this is a common fault and that a DIY repair is possible, by taking off the end plate of the gearbox and re-securing the nut which holds fifth gear in its place.

If this is so can anyone advise me as to what torque to apply to the nut securing the fifth gear cog and does the nut 'pinch' into a groove which I believe is on the main shaft?

Any guidance would be most appreciated.

Thanks

Barry

Hello and welcome.

Hello and Welcome.

In my expeience, 5th Gear noise is usually made either my Needles revving something or VBH squealing. (sorry)

Sadly, its usually over some piece of exotic automotive engineering rather than, well use your imagination.:D
