Calling all fault codes guru's!

Featured Replies

Hi

Hedge very kindly used his laptop to have a look at the fault codes on my '03 plated, Mk1 Octavia vRS.

Could I ask anyone in the know to have a look and tell me what they think.

As a bit of a background, the drivers door, (the rest work fine) on the central locking and heated and power to drivers wing mirror itermitantaly and then completely stopped working a while ago. Windows still all work okay. I took it to a garage who changed the central locking on the drivers door, with no luck.

Having spoken to a few of you on here previously it sounds like the central convienience. Is the mention in the codes confirmation?

I've also killed a couple of batteries this year.

Clearing the faults and then rerunning the check showed no fault codes, but also didnt fix anything sadly.

Kindest regards and thanks

Clarkie

You didn't post the codes mate.

I know, what a pillock! Should be on there now :o

The ones associated with the low power are often simply as a result of removing battery power.

The others, as there seems to be more than one side of the car affected, would point toward the Conv unit initially. If I were you I'd sit tight for a little while and see if you get any more symptoms.

As a matter of interest does your rear washer work ok and is the boot dry near the wheel arches?

No it makes noises but no water comes out, but the nearside at the back gets damp

I'd say that is the root of your issue. IIRC the Conv unit is in the boot near the rear wheel arch. When the washer pipe pops off then it floods this area and the Conv unit takes the hit.

This may help - Fabia-vrs.com - Repairs to Rear Washer Pipe - Fabia and Octavia (A4 / A5).

Specifically the Octavia A4 C pillar connection.

On the Octavia 1 the convenience system central control unit is located behind the bottom part of the dash panel on the driver's side.

I'm convinced there is a unit in the boot Denis which handles the locking functions.

Just been looking at the CFD's and it appears it might not be a unit but a brown 5 pin plug at the C Pillar.

Could that 5 pin being flooded affect the circuit and cause the cscc to malfunction, I've had a look at what I think is the unit, (plastic box mounted on a plate behind the dash, with a board in it) and there was nothing obvious. Just trying to work out the best plan on trying to fix it. Oh the fun I'll be having on my days off!

Stu, your correct there is a brown plug in the near side c pillar, and whilst at the dealers the other day was shown a Mk1 Octy with all the interior taken out as the water had got into the loom via that plug, and they had to replace the loom, christ what a job all for a water ingress.

Thankfully when I found mine wasnt working and noted the wet patch I stopped using it. Here's hoping I dont have the same bigger problem!

Sounds like a good place to start then, the plug in question is in relation to the Central Locking.

Will do, watch this space so to speak!

Mine is a 1998 MK1 Octavia GLXi

May be something else i can look for.

Certainly worth checking.
