Key problem

Featured Replies

Hi, the problem I have is I have lost my original key so I used my spare which I thought was adapted to the immobiliser system. On the dash display "Immobiliser Active" flashes and the vehicle wont start.

Using my VCDS there is a fault logged in the immobiliser "Key signal implausible" which wont clear, live data shows

1,Engine Start,permitted No

2,Engine (ECU),responds Yes

3,Key Status Yes

4,Number of,adapted Keys 1

The key signal is showing good number of keys adapted 1 which must be the old key.

The dealer near by has tryed re-adapting my spare key which apparently wont code?

Any ideas guys?

Is there actually a transponder chip in your spare key to code in? These have been known to either not be there or sometimes get lost if the keys are dropped. If the chip is in the key I'd say the thing is just faulty and you'll be needing a nice new shiny key.

Thanks Ill have to check that, Id of thought it must be as the live data is receiving a good key signal.

Did the spare ever work properly (ie start and run the engine) ? If it didn't, then it may not have the correct transponder. In mine, a dud key will start the engine, but it cuts out after about 2 secs with the immobiliser symbol illuminated (key under a car).

Alternatively the technician at the dealer may not be very competent. In my experience not many of them inspire confidence when re-coding keys (and that is being kind).
