catch tank

Featured Replies

I have just bought a catch tank to do the ccv mod and on inspection, have found that there is no wire wool filter inside . Having read through the threads on catch tanks, is it advisable to fit some type of filtering inside the tank , or fit it as it came ?

Ive not got any filter material in my catch tank,

As far as I understood its a low air speed going through the catch tank so the oil just drops to the bottom, doesnt need to be filtered.

Some pictures. Will it give me any probs like this do you think?

Not if you take the scourers out. Don't those things rust after a while if in contact with vapour/ water?

Thats the same one as ive got Lex , and i have done the same as you ,but with wire wool inside a pair of tights :P, to keep the wool fibres together.I have vented the pipe back into the inlet using some heater hose.I attatched the can to the side of the battery cover and must admit it looks quite tidy. Will post some pictures later. Also i refitted the engine cover even though i had to trim out a little at the side for the pipework:thumbup:. Whilst i had the cover off, I removed the EGR valve and cleaned the crud out of it and the inlet manifold.I couldnt believe how much caked on oily carbon there was on the inside:eek:,but now i have a shiney EGR and a recirculating ccv so hopefully it should stay clean from now on.

Did you have to plumb 2 hoses into 1 then on to the catch can?

Reason I ask is that what I think is the CCV appears to connect to another breather via the Y shaped pipe at the top tight of the engine (the one prone to splitting) before routing to the air intake.
