clicking AFTER indicating - octavia

Featured Replies

My Octavia has developed a VERY annoying noise. After I have used the indicators, the clicking noise you normally hear continues. Not only does it continue but the speed changes too. Can anyone tell me what has gone wrong, and how I can fix it?

I had exactly the same problem on my wife's SEAT Leon, which I believe uses the same (or very similar) stalks. Lots of people suggested it would be the flasher relay but changing that made no difference.

It ended up being the stalk itself - I managed to get a 2nd hand one from ebay for £5, but chickened out of DIY fitting as it's an airbag-out job, so left it to my local garage who charged £60 to fit.

The clicking sound the octavia makes for the indicator isn't the noise of a relay it's a "computer" sound through a speaker.

Thanks guys! So if I understand this correctly, it is propably the stalk that is the problem, and the noise (even if computer generated) is made because the stalk is malfunctioning?

Wonder if you could assign a different sound to it? Like these people who play a full music track before answering their phone.

Yes, quite possibly. It's the self-cancel mechanism not behaving properly or a loose contact. You will probably find that if you move the stalk just very gently in either direction (without actually clicking it on), the noise will stop or at least change pattern

Hi Kerrytenny,

My Skoda has picked this virus now. Makes this click click noise after using the indicator. It doesn't happen always but when happens it is very annoying. Can you let me know how did you manage to sort this out?

Took my car to a local skoda delear and he says I have to leave the car with him for investigation and he will charge £40 for 30 minutes ....

Thanks

Raj

Get some contact cleaner and squirt it down the entry to the steering column where the stalk comes out. It is just the copper contacts wearing away, getting gummed up or shards of copper causing a short.

Had it on the Bora about a month ago and since i've sprayed it hasn't come back.

£3.99 from Halfrauds.

Like the Countdown theme perhaps? Drive you mad on a long journey...
