Phatbox / Phatnoise help

Featured Replies

hi all,

im new here, will be picking up my octavia mk1 LK on tuesday :)

it has the standard skoda head unit, and 6 disc changer in the boot.

i want to have my mp3s accessible on it, so i think the phatbox thingyme is what i need.

will any of the vw or audi ones be compatible? i basicly need as much info on them as possible, i read the sticky and googled and searched here. but the compatibility and how it connects to the head unit is a bit unclear as they are not in production any more.

any help much appreciated! :)

Hedge is your main man for all things Phatbox around here but to briefly answer your main question then yes a VW one should be fine.

Thanks for the recommendation Stu but I am but a mere ex Phatbox owner.

The actual Phatbox unit is the same for both Audi and VW it is the cable that differs and the firmware that you select in the Music Manager software.

brilliant thank you guys, and i am assuming here that the VW one (cable and software) is 100% compatible with the octavia mk1 and its 6 disc changer?

I thought the Audi style Phatbox was the one which was designed to screw down to a flat surface, where the VW one fits into the existing CD changer bracket.

Either way, they connect to the CD changer cable (the cd changer is no longer used). Also, as said, the Audi version uses a different plug/socket.

ok so are we saying then,

1) that i can get any Phatbox (audi or vw) and all i have to do is buy the correct cable from ebay (a vw one) and it will work?

so the Phatbox version i get is irrelavant as i can buy a different cable if the cable i get with the unit is incorrect?

2) and either will work (with the correct cable from ebay) with the headunit in the mk1 octavia, 2002 reg L&K TDi

just to be 100% clear! :)

Thats my understanding of it.
