PD engine: phased out yet?

Featured Replies

Have searched here and elsewhere - but can't find an answer. Will the CR replacement mean that the PD engine is phased out, and if so, when? I had the impression that certain 1.9 PD engines would remain in production, but could be wrong. :)

It'll take a while but when they have a CR across the range I expect them to be gone.

Seat Leon FR still uses the PD engine and isn't slated to be change until the Leon gets a facelift sometime next year.

I belive Audi have just started using a lower power 2.0CR to replace the 1.9tdi 105bhp.. i think its 110bhp - thatll probably come to skoda with the octavia facelift.. although doubt itll appear in the fabia.

IIRC there are some new 1.6 CR engines in the pipeline for the smaller cars.

Still in use in all Fabia Diesels and in the Supurb in 105 and 140 bhp guises as well as Octavia until facelift as well as SEAT Leon and Altea. I know the engines are noisier but I think PDs reputation for reliability is better than commonrail. I don't really trust that technology. Diesels are getting far too complicated. My sisters other half hates the latest common rails but said the old PD in the Galaxy was a reliable engine.

Yeah that seems to be the case with VW at least, the MkVI golf will use this, with the Bluemotion having 99g/km Co2, not bad at all, reasonable performance figures aswell. Most brands seem to be downsizing, the 1.9 Fiat CR multijet diesel has been replaced with a 1.6 in most models.

Yes i have heard that the Octavia will get the 1.6CR as its base diesel engine.
