Still tempted with an Almera

Featured Replies

I had an '02 Primera SVE 2.2 DI, picked it up just after they were released.

The old Di engine had 124BHP, 16 valves and a VNT. and AFAIK the 136dCi was a reworked Di.

Standard kit: 3D DVD sat nav, 7" colur info screen, reversing camera, climate control, 6 airbags, anti whiplash head restraints, subwoofer under the drivers seat, integrated mobile phone crade, 17" alloys blah blah. It was a good car back in 2002 regardless of what anyone says about it, I think it was released too early as it was quite a few years ahead of its time.

I used to average 35mpg/400 mies per tank fully loaded and yes, the little green fuel consumption graph was pretty snazzy back in the day :D I even found out how to access the configuration/diagnostics menu in the N-Form console

Passed a Primera today in light blue metallic and was struck how similar the body shape is to the Prius (or vice versa) it still looks modern. Personally Phil, the Primera, although a heavier lump, drives a lot better than the Almera imho. the Almera chassis is very dull and generally me and the sales staff all preferred the Primera to drive. On the motorway there is no competition as you can imagine.

I rarely drive on the motorway though that my only concern and the primera is going to be a bit heavier round town etc.

I really don't care about a "dull chassis"... i mean the chassis on the felicia is hardly ground breaking and that is just fine for me... i prefer top line speed rather than going fast round bends (too much tale happyness in my old citroen that scared me a bit!)

A few years back when I was replacing the Fabia I drove a Primera with the 2.2 136bhp engine. My impressions of it were not very promising - the engine was lethargic and unwilling, the steering seemed very detached from the road wheels, and the interior felt cheap and nasty with a poor driving position. Drove a few other cars and ended up buying a Mondeo which was leaps and bounds better than all of them :D

As with all things, I recommend you drive one and make up your own mind, but just my 2p worth :D

Chris

Yep I agree, neither of the Nissans are a patch on the Mondeoeoeoe to drive at least. But you do get an amazing amount of kit in them.

Well thats what has attracted me to the Almera... Decent size car and not too big (not a fan of owning a barge as a car!) with a good reliable and pokey engine and plenty of buttons to play with! lol

Suppose the proof is in the pudding as they say!

I had various Almeras to take home and they are fairly solidly built and comfy too. Walking is faster than the 1.5 petrol however.

Well my mates one certainly stood up to the test of 2 kids, tons of bike equipment and bikes in and out, a great dane and all while having the you know whats thrashed off it wherever it went!

Don't worry... I will be steering clear of the wheezy 1.5! I will only be getting one with the 2.2 DCi if I can get one at a decent price with low mileage!

I have found one at a Nissan garage in Preston... Silver, 19,000 miles, 2.2 DCi 136 SVE for just under £4,900 but could no doubt beat him down on the price a bit (buyers market and all!).

Kick the dealer in the Wingnuts and insult him with a ridiculously low offer I reckon. Try £3.5K for cash and go from there.

Hehe. I think that is definately the way to go!

Will see what I think after the test drive and go from there.

Might not be actually buying until after new year though... do you reckon it will no longer be a "buyers market" by then?

I would guess with the back log of cars out there, it is going to take ages to get the market going again. Could be well over a year before things are anywhere near normal again for the poor dealers. The auction houses are reporting that the average price of cars is down quite a lot on last year.

GM and Ford could even go bust!
