Little spanner symbol has popped up after only 9000 miles?

Featured Replies

Hi Guys, is this normal.....

I have a 2006 MK2 VRS that i bought in December last year on 20K miles and now it has 29K after 10 months of ownership.

I asked the dealers to service it as part of the deal and it came with a service stamp and it says that the next service is due in 2009 or at 40K miles in the service history book......

.....but the little spanner icon has come on saying only 2000 miles to service?

If its set to variable =

Min mileage for service 9300

Max mileage for service 18600

So it could well be due, but to me sounds like it was reset to a fixed regime at the last service.

It has been set to fixed service - same happened to me:

serviced when I bought it at 1yr old and 14k miles

at 18k the service indicator came on

reported to dealer: no problem must have forgotten to reset the counter - bring it in and we'll reset it

took it in, gave him the key and 2 minutes later job done

but they had reset it with the trip button which changes it to fixed service a fact which only got picked up after next service (at 27.5k) when it was reset to variable

Again, same here, it seems to be a common mistake. Perhaps most cars are on the fixed regime & that why the fitters default to this.

How do you change it with the trip button ? Thought it could only be done with VAGCOM ?

Not sure of the details but it is some combination of pushing it in and twisting it while switching on the ignition.

Resets the service indicator but also sets it to fixed regime (ie every 9,400 miles or 12 months)

1. Ignition off, push and hold the trip button

2. While holding, switch ignition on

3. Release the button, on the display comes one of the service periods

4. Turn clock set button clockwise, on the display comes: "service ----"

5. Switch off ignition, only after this selected data is cleared

Clock set button ? I change my clock via Maxidot. Do you mean the trip reset button ?

The clock set button and trip reset button are one and the same for those lesser mortals that don't have Maxidot :D

LOL Just been out and changed it to fixed. Didnt know it did the clock to.

You don't hang about mate!!
