2 little problems with my L&K

Featured Replies

1) my interior lights are not coming on when i open the car, which i think is due to this switch being broken (the black slider one is broken, it is hanging on by one plastic hook only). Which i think means i cannot tell the car to turn the them on when i open the doors!

so how can i get the light panel off to manually push the switch, and then just blu tack the switch in place, as i cant see a reason i would turn off the welcome lights

(ignore the red lights, i just pinched the pic from another thread for ease)

2) my L&K has heated seats, but the little dials in the centre console that you scroll from 0 to 5, are not lit from behind which makes finding them at night very difficult! Every other button in the whole car is lit fine, except this one, which seems odd.

Is this normal? or should it be backlit? how easy is it to remove the console face to replace the bulb/LED? (the dials are between the ASR button and the fuel cap open button).

thanks!

(1) This shouldn't affect the electrical operation of the switch, just make the mechanical operation awkward. Unless the courtesy lights were off when the switch got broken, you've got another problem than just the physically broken switch body there.

(2) No idea, but if does seem strange given that even the Elegance is like the Blackpool flippin' illuminations at night!

2) could be a loose wire feed into the switch that comes from the interior lighting feed.

Maybe try and remove it and check all the connections. I know my seat dials are iluminated when the headlights are on.

how do i get those buttons out (from the centre console - eg. the heated rear window button etc) ? do they just pull out or something?

update to help others:

1) the interior light switch: i removed the sunroof controls (just pry gently with a screwdriver from the near side) to give more room to get at the lights.

then remove the perspex cover from the bulbs (do it from the windscreen side gently).

then you see 2 standard phillips screws. remove carefully without dropping into oblivion. they are only 4mm long, probably an M5 size.

now pull out the light housing. it might be a bit fiddly, and it probably easiest to pull down from the windscreen side.

then undo the clip attaching the wires to the switch.

there is a little metal sliding contact plate, which my broken switch clips through the middle of. i put the plate in place, then using tweezers to hold the plate either side of the hole, pushed the switch through it until the switch sat snuggly in the housing again. tested and its fixed. though it is a little ginger. a new light housing could be bought instead, and the coloured patches transferred.

heres a picture:

2) the heated seat switch has the green bulb built into the switch, in a way that it cannot be replaced. a new switch will be required to get it to light up i would say. the switch can just prise out gently with a screwdriver at the sides of the switch. pressing in the fuel cap opener makes access easier.

just thought i would add furthur to this, i found another picture of the interior light in another thread about rear interior lights retro fitting,

the picture shows that there should be some kind of little spring on top of the metal sliding plate to keep everything taught, i might try to find one that would fit the bill if my switch becomes loose again (though i never touch the switch now  )
