Hi guys! Fabia vRS modding question???

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I was on a little while ago when i was supposed to be buying my mum's Octavia.... I havent as she decided to keep it after changineg back to her old job, but in about 16-18 months I'll be considering a Fabia VRs alongside some jap metal... as I do about 20-25k pA and possibly more soon and my jap car's petrol engines have always liked drink... a bit like the volvo im driving atm does (yes i know, volvo, but its comfortable on the motorway and was a good price)...

Basically I wanted to know how hard it would be for me to extract 200+bhp out of the engine... no offence but although a 0-60 of 9.6 sec and a top end of 127 is adequate its not enough for me :P lol  Any idea of what 0-60 1/4 mile and top end this'll give me?

If its possible for less then stupid money i'll consider it, I can do a lot of work myself due to what i am doing/will be doing work wise!

The mods I know i will want atm is front mount intercooler, uprated injectors, ecu remap (can they be remapped?), uprated hybrid turbo, highflow manifolds, stainless exhaust (not too free flowing), coilover suspension (is this availiable or do I get Leda to knock me up a set for approx

Jabba will get you very close to 200bhp for not much money, but suspension and brakes is a must if you're looking at a remap :) Ross Clarke is your man when it comes to breaking the 200bhp barrier ;)

Chris

Welcome to the forums :)

200bhp should be easily obtainable.... JBS do a 220bhp NoS conversion..

a remap will see about 190bhp, altho with that power, brakes and suspension need uprating... also a fmic can be fitted as with that power, heatsoak in summer can be an issue...

for over 190bhp AmD can do a hybrid turbo setup... but be warned.. above 190 is beginning to get to the limits of clutch and dual-mass flywheels power handling.

above that.. the sky is the limit :D

Cheers guys... It's a definate consideration :) What will the Jabba cost?

Has anyone got 0-60 and 1/4 mile times for thier beasts?

I'm not worried about needing to uprate the clutch if I decide to increase power, but I'm not yet familiar with this engine and gearbox yet, the only diesel ive tuned is my mate's not so great 1.9td 306... I'd be interested in how the possible duel mass flywheel issue could be addressed...

Does anyoneknow the std boost pressure and pow far the internals will cope as std?

I'm a pain asking already asked questions but Cheers,

Matt

standard boost pressure is about 1.45 bar

IIRC the engine is good for about 250bhp but would need serious money throwing at it... upraded PD injectors are very expensive.

maybe have a look on TDICLUB for ideas on uprating and tuning the engine :)

there are several remap options... AMD, Jabba, Revo to name a few. (all have benefits and drawbacks)

Ive got Revo on mine and am very happy with it :) - benifit of Revo is it can be switched between remapped and standard... for if car was going for servicing etc. my particular map also has a third mode... codename "nutter" ;) basically its originally designed to just throw as much fuel into the engine as possible... was designed for use with a nitrous system, as it would smoke too much otherwise. :D

As for the dual mass clutch.. a single mass clutch could be fitted, also i belive someone is looking into a uprated ceramic clutch to handle bigger power. :D

i would estimate my car can hit 60 in maybe around 7/7.5 seconds, altho not verified. which would make about ballpark 15second qtr mile

hope this helps

Just spotted this. Will you be including this in your review too?

Great stuff, cheers... I'll take a look...

hmmm 7-7.5 aint bad and a standing qtr in 15 is good... v good for a little fabia :) A little slower then i was looking for but considering the car's running costs seem to be so low it's going to get some major consideration!!! (as 20-25+k miles a year eats fuel :) ) If I go for it i'll get it remapped straight away and then look to getting further work done :) As i'll be savineg a fair bit on running costs I should be able to plough a larger amount of mulah into it then the jap cars :)

Many thanks, other ppl's views and advice welcome :D

had a look at this. also went on richvrsrevo's web site. what a fantastic road test of their long term fabia vRS. have to agree with his comments about official skoda performence figures. they are very conservative. autocar's road test of the octy vrs showed a 0-60 of 6.7 , againts 7.9 official. after having an octy vrs, and now fabia vrs the fab doesn't feel much slower than octy. and way quicker than official 9.6.

cheers jonno.(oh i also get about 20 mpg more in fabia)

Ive not done a proper review yet... that post was suppost just to be a "ive done it and im happy" post ;)

and who says my car is actually finished yet? :P

The official 0-60 time of 9.6 should be ignored

Most standard ones (once loosened up) are closer to 8.0 - 8.5

Remapped are 7 ish

But its all about midrange with these babies

Mine did the 1/4 mile in 16.79 which I was very happy with. It was standard then too!! With only 4k on the clock :D so it was still a tightish engine!

Cool :) I think quoted times can usually be a second over what the actual is but I'll still want more POWER :D lol Na it sounds good, i'm REALLY considering one now...

Thanks :)

Matt

Tom got 15.2 secs in his AmD remapped Ibiza 130 PD. He has been in my car and seems to think it will easily get into the 14's.

We shall see.
