Info on Maxidot Panel

Featured Replies

I like to get some info on the Fabia instrument panel.

Can one just change the normal VRS panel against a Maxidot panel without issues?

Thanks for any help.

I think a couple of people on here have tried it, but still have some outstanding issues (like fuel gauge working backwards). As far as I know nobody has done it successfully yet.:(

I had a look at this once, there are a few articles on here where someone tried. But as already pointed out the fuel guage seems to be the most difficult part to get working.

Its a shame Skoda didn't include this as an option without having to have Sat Nav as I really like the maxi dot.

What is the maxi dot !!!!

The fuel gauge requires calibration which consists of emptying the tank and filling with a measured amount of fuel (5L IIRC) and then setting up the gauge. As yet I am not aware of anyone doing this so we don't really know if it would solve the issue.

Ross (Lummox) did the pre-wire on my car this afternoon and the fuel gauge read correctly without any adjustment or recalibration. I definitely think that you need to have all the parts including the correct TMC unit (thanks VRStu) and a proper specialist doing the install (according to Ross it was a real PITA). Hopefully within the next couple of weeks I'll get back over to Unit 18 with the codes and Ross can finish it off, at which point I'll be posting piccies!

Good new Walt, I had a call from Ross yesterday morning with a quick update and he did seem pleased with the progress.

I'm sure Walt wont mind ;)

Wiring, hmm with a satnav retrofit, phatwotsit, bluetooth kit etc etc, wiring is fun.

Looking good.

Great stuff Ross - with mine I only have the dashpod to sort, not all the other gubbins :)

Coming together nicely that :) - shame I couldn't keep mine for money reasons, would have made a nice addition, but so much to do as it is :P

I've left you thanks Wiebo - Ross knows why!

Let us see what it looks like once you finished.

Don't suppose your interested in fitting another Maxi Dot? :D

Well, he does it for money, so I'm sure he'd love to do it:D

What's this? Another member with a fabled Fabia maxidot dash pod?!

I think there are several changing hands and never getting installed. I think the issue is that in principle it's a very easy swap. I'm told that in theory it's something like two screws and then about an hour (tops) with the right bit of software to recode everything and away you go. In practise, no-one has actually done it in the UK yet, as far as I know.

Whatever the reasons are for things not working, they are not well documented and as it was only ever sold as part of a very expensive package, I can't help but think that the original ICE engineers who designed the system into the Fabia bodged something somewhere and as a result it all only works properly if you have the right build-year, ECU, fuel sender and you have it retro-fitted on the dark of the moon.

I know for a fact that the secondary sat-nav instructions are only relayed to the dashpod if the 'A' suffixed TMC tuner is installed, not the much cheaper non-'A' part that is very commonly found in earlier VAG cars that had the same MFD head unit. I can't see why Blaupunkt/VAG would do that, but if they did that, what else have they done?

All these 'complications' are very much why I'm getting Unit 18 to do mine, as he's got the diagrams and the tools, and VRStu on the mobile:D

That looks sweet, Good work Ross.

If you get it working properly can you let us know.

If it's not too expensive I'd love to get mine done.

I managed to gte everything working on mine bar the fuel gauge.

It worked but backwards

Tryed the calibration and it calibrated it but it still worked backwards.

I sold it when i sold my fabia. dunno whos got it now mind.

Just a quick update on this. It appears my Maxidot panel was defective, and it can't be repaired apparently. It's a shame. The Speedometer is out of calibration and SUK won't repair it, so I'm fubared unfortunately.

Has anyone who bought a Fabia Maxidot from the group buy been able to get it working 100%?

Did you ever hook it up to a proper VAS system and do the diagnostics on the dashpod? Mine appeared to work correctly, but when they did more thorough diagnostics it failed. One of the diagnostics forces the fuel guage to show empty, 50% and 100% and it would be interesting to know if that test passed or failed? Mine fails the test where it forces the speedo to show 100km/h, as it only shows 80km/h.
