Poor starting when hot.

Featured Replies

I have an 05 Octavia 1.9 TDi with 63000 miles on the clock. I have had it for about a month and find that it doesn't start anywhere near as well when hot as it does when cold. (I mean it has to turn over quite a few times when hot whereas when cold, a couple of compressions and it's away). Is this normal or is there a fault? If there is a fault, does anyone know what it is and should it be picked up by diagnostics? I would like to know before my 3 month's guarantee runs out.

Might be worth getting a diagnostics done on it to see if any fault codes have shown up.There is also a thread on here somewhere about this.

This is one of the many reasons I sold my 530d. BMW wanted £2500 plus labour for new injectors and fuel pump as they were worn (150,000 miles). Car always started, just took longer than when cold. decided I could live with it until I sold it. (now I don't have to live with it!)

Starter motor thats what I'm putting my money on. Do a search!!

Just a thought

Is there a sensor that tells the engine when its hot or cold?

If so (and petrol cars have this) then this can cause too rich a mixture to be provided to the engine thereby not starting when the engines been running.

Had a works gti with this problem years ago.

I've heard that the starter motor could be at fault, or the coolant temp sensor.

Maybe fuel temp sensor as well as 2.0TDi have this problem too but normally when cold starting.

Mine 05 2.0tdi was the same. Starter motor cured it.

That's what it was on my 2.0TDI anyway...............
