Which chip does my car have???

Featured Replies

Hi, could anyone tell me if my car has a 'Jabbasport' chip or a Superchip from the well known company 'Superchips' fitted?

Also what is the difference?

My 2002 mk1 Octy vRS had a chip fitted by the previous owner way back in 2003

I have the invoice but instead of going to Jabbasport directly the invoice is from a main Skoda dealer 'Wings of Peterborough' and has the following on it:-

Work Requested: Fit Superchip via Jabbasport

This cost him £464.99!

Please help:confused:

So which chip does the car have, anyone??

Sounds like a Superchip?

Maybe, but as far as i'm aware Jabbasport are not a Superchip dealer/fitter.

They had their own brand of chip called the Jabba-chip.

This is so confusing, why would he of gone through a Skoda dealer in Peterborough to have a chip fitted and not direct to Jabbasport which is also based in Peterborough?

Anyone else have any clues/ideas to which chip my car has?

Is there a physical interceptor box fitted, which would suggest Superchips, Dragon or Van Aaken kit?

If not, then I'd suspect it's a Jabba remap, and if you call Jabba with date and registration they should be able to confirm.

To be honest i have not looked at the ECU for clues as to what chip is fitted, as i have no idea how to get to it to take a look.

However the car did come with a spare small chip in a black box. I would assume this is the OEM chip that was removed when the upgrade was fitted.

As far as i'm aware the OEM chip is not removed when you have a Re-map is it?

Anyone have any ideas?

If the chip has physically been changed, I'd suspect a Superchip. I'd still think Jabba will be able to help if you have or can get the Jabba invoice number.

Was hoping to resolve which chip my car has without having to make a call to Jabbasport to be honest.

Anybody else have a clue?

Try contacting the bloke that had the job done then?

Your options really come down to opening the ECU and looking, or talking to the previous owner, the dealer or Jabbasport. The most I can do from here is informed guessing.

Ok thanks for your help, if i can find out how to get to the ECU  and if it's not too difficult i will have a look when i get some spare time.

In the meantime if anyone else has any clue as to which kind of chip is fitted  your views/advice will be appreciated.

I personally would not in messing with the ecu. Contacting jabba would be your best bet and its only a phone call.

Yeah i must admit i really don't wanna go looking around in the ECU.

Thing i don't get is why was the car taken to a Skoda main dealer to have a chip fitted via Jabbasport???

I'm beginning to think that maybe Jabbasport used to be a 'Superchips' dealer before they developed their own 'Jabba-chip'.

I checked on Superchips.co.uk and Jabbasport are not listed as one of their dealers.

All i know is the upgrade chip completely replaced the OEM chip as i have that in a box.

I have attached pics of the Jabbasport 225 piggy-back style chip, could this be what was fitted?

Do these replace the OEM chip?

Anyone???

I have an idea...why not phone Jabba and find out what was done??

Sounds like a plan.

Jabbasport, back in 2003 used to map the vRS by replacing the chip in the ecu. These were the days before obd flashing became the norm. The little black box you have is the original chip removed from the ecu by Mike. The chip is NOT a superchip at all, but a jabba remap customised for your car, for its time the jabba remap was the best money could buy.

Jabba and superchips have neither had, or even currently have any relationship to the rather poor superchip generic remap.

My old vRS was mapped this way by Mike in 2002, thats how I know.

lol, one call and all could have been solved!

Thanks Mannyo, i finally have the answer i wanted (without having to make a single phonecall :)).

Question is why on earth did he go through his local Skoda dealer and not to Jabbasport direct???

That's the main reason i did'nt phone Jabbasport as the invoice for the work done was from the Skoda dealer not Jabba.

Anyone else think this is strange for Skoda to assist someone in getting a re-map?

Cheers to everyone for their help and advice as usual :D

It's unusual, but suggests an old-fashioned dealership who will actually follow a customer instruction rather than an importer's "party line".

If you went through your dealer, then it kept your warranty fully intact!

I was offered a remap from a local tuner from the skoda dealer when I bought my car, and this was obviously with there profit added on top, but kept the warranty for me.

At the time I didnt go for the chip, but still to this day wish I had of, as I know of a few people who have got remaps now, and it makes for such a nicer drive.

Only because that dealer were willing to bend the rules and lie to Skoda or pay for the work themselves. Which is fine until the dealer changes hands or goes belly up.
