A dealer advert, of course. My mate wants to replace an oldish Rover with a Skoda (who can blame him!)

Would you consider it a good price? What bhp is that engine?

thats a rather high price even considering the mileage, the engine is 115bhp its an old 8v lump fuel economy is pretty poor for what it is, tbh the 1.6sr has 105bhp and slightly better fuel economy, dont know is they did the 1.6 16v lump in the octy, much more refined an modern engine, hed be able to pick up a decent tdi 110 or maybe the 130 at a newer reg then that

In all honesty that is a rip-off price - Wisebuyer suggests £2,138 retail A1!

Old (relatively) PETROL Octavias (non-VRS) are all but worthless and difficult to sell.

If he really, really, really, wants one, go for a private sale, personally I would steer well clear.

put it this way... i picked up a 53 plate vRS with 55000 miles FSH for £3700 cash

I would desperately like to say yes (cos a Tdi Elegance would be worth more), but realistically it should be half that price at most.

Although having said what I said, a valuation system based on real life advertised prices comes up with £3327, so perhaps no quite as bad as the price guessers would suggest! I still think most petrol Octavias are white elephants and generally bad news though!

I'd be interested to hear your views further on this....

I didnt have any complaints about my last octy which was the same 1.8T lump as the vRS, which i had for four years... and still would now if it hadnt have been malliciously damaged and written off, and that was on 112000miles

It's probably got more to do with the way Greedy Gordon and the environ mentalists are trying to force us all into cars that make slightly fewer carbons than with the desirability of at least the 1.8T engine.

IMO, it is overpriced and a more realistic price would be £3200-£3500.

Of course it does not stop you putting in offer at say £3000 and take it from there.

EVERYTHING is negotiable!

I had a 2003 Mk1 vRS from new and it was great. Only changed it for Mk 2.0 FSi Elegance for the somewhat smoother gearchange and lighter feel to the handling, plus I felt I didn't need the "kick" any more.

Having said that I recently chnged again for a new Mk 2 TSi so the kick is back!

You could get a good diesel for that. Unless it's the 1.8T, I really don't see the point of the others. Even replacing the plugs or getting to the rocker cover is horrible, horrible in the 1.6/2.0. I guess I just like the tdi as a motor more all round, the 1.8T wins out a bit by being turbo and very, very smooth and turbiney. If it goes quick as well, maybe one can argue the heavy fuel consumption against the tdi. But a 2.0?

Greg.

I clearly intended to exclude the 1.8T in my comments - if you want a fight look elsewhere.

How much does any reckon my skoda octy vrs on a 02 plate 77k miles , remapped, 007 dv with lpg gas conversion worth any1? Oh its in met black in top cond!
