Its soooo on now.. ive even got one of those floppy disk things to update the bios!

And what do you mean by "special"? Is that the old one or the G0 one?Phil

Yeah, the SLACR one, G0 stepping.

Thats the one that I have... didn't seen why I should get the older one when the G0 was slightly cheaper at the time!

Its a good cpu and still runs pretty cool with a slight overclock.

Phil

P.s.... What have I started... some kind of e-penis war! lol

Only the fastest DX9(:o) card ever made, still makes the cut these days . Although someone will probably prove otherwise

7950gx2 by any chance? lol.

Nice respectable cards... bit loud though :(

Thats what's putting me off getting a GTX280 or similar... the noise from the cooler.

I've spent so much time trying to get it as quiet as possible I would be reluctant to stick a big noise maker like that in the case!

Correct ........It's is a Fluffmeister special, and yes it does make a bit of a racket :(

ooh oooh ooh, i've got graphics on my mac.. is that any good??

what's the difference bewteen a core and a dual core:confused: i think i've got a dual cpu or someting

  • Author

Bless... maybe stick with the cars eh!

lol

Dual core is a processor with two "cores" so it can process two operations at once.

Think of it as a water pipe... one pipe and there is one flow of water through... add another pipe and there can be a second flow and more can flow.

Phil

two operations at once, that's not a new idea, risc machines have been doing that for centuries now... repackage the idea and sell it to thousands of unsuspecting poeple for huge profit:P

ok, i've just found a cross platform utility called geekbench 2, can somebody fire it up on thier pc so i can see a comparison between my mac and a pc

it's more two CPU's in one physical package. each of which are the usual RISC/CISC hybrid type of deal

Vista Scores

Processor 5.8

RAM 5.9

Graphics 5.9

Gaming Graphics 5.9

Primary Hard Disk 5.9

Microsoft updated the ratings about 9 months ago so machines that used to do 5.9 didn't do as well. The RAM test is all about bandwidth, so DDR3 machines generally do 5.9 whereas DDR2 systems tend to do 5.3-5.6 unless they're really tweaked. I think you need a Quad to do 5.9 now on the CPU test. The graphics test is still quite easy to max out - pretty much anything better than an X1950 or an 8800GS will do.

Naturally, all my systems do straight 5.9's:P
