GTi No2 update

Featured Replies

Bit of an eventfull few weeks in the life of GTi No2. After our visit to Gaydon I managed to destroy and inner CV joint whilst pulling away shall we say in a Brisk manner from a junction, luckily enough only just around the corner from my house, so i rolled what I could and pushed the rest of the way. Bonus was I have a now redundant set of driveshats from GTi No1 as that has gone wide track and uses MK3 Golf items. I had already begun to refurb them and joints had been stripped cleaned and inspected. So I built them up and got ready to fit them. Despite having a 22 bay workshop, and my own unit with ramp at my disposal I was stuck at home so this meant replacing the driveshaft on my drive (joy). So I jacked it up whipped the old driveshaft out and attempted to fit the new one. Then I found out something interesting (or not as the case maybe). Someone previously has fitted driveshafts and smaller flanges in the gearbox. The 16v should use the larger 100mm inner CV joints, mine had 90mm items from the 1.6 etc. So my shaft wouldnt fit, balls. So after a bit of digging around I 'found' two 100mm flanges, fitted them to the box and then fitted the stronger rebuilt 100mm shafts, cool. Now very happy again and back on the road.

After all that I deciced to treat her to a wash (only the 2nd she has had) and then it started raining, balls (again).

You know I ducked off at the services before Newport Pagnell, I bust it pulling out of the service road out the back of there (naughty naughty).

good news clarkmatic

That looks really well. Id like a MK2 Gti, and Id like it to look like that one :)

I really like this car! Looks super :)

Simple and understated - love the look of that.

Is it a keeper?

Is it a keeper?

As much as any car is for me yeah ;)

So you're the reason I can never find any nice Mk2 16v's for sale!

Looks great - really quite agressive :)

Glad you've got those issues sorted out as well

Looking good Ross. Are you sure somebody has not fitted a 8v box to it as the 16v mk2 gearboxes are getting harder to come by now.

I hate you Lummox, I really hate you. I only wish there was more of you to hate. :)

As I'm "resting" at present I've been "assisting" a mate who runs a mobile service & repair operation. Tomorrow I've got a service on a Frontera on the owners drive.

And it's forecast for rain.

And the portable gazebo got damaged and the replacement hasn't arrived yet.

P.S. Nice Golf - I hate you even more now. ;)

This is a possibility, wasnt sure if the 8v ran 90mm flanges. But I have a receipt for a clutch that was fitted a while back and it has a 16v clutch in it. And I thought the 8v and 16v had different input shafts.
