That's bought fond memories back of cleaning the oil out of mine

charge coolers aren't as efficient as air-water intercoolers and also cost more not to mention actually saping power from the engine :)

and des personally i have done no testing of IC's i can only trust the profesionals and companies i speak to about it, have you run tests on IC's then measuring things like flow rate, ability to drop temps, pressure drops and how much of a difference it makes to a car with back to back testing?

YES!! :P

I have actually and a lot more besides. Even before there was a FMIC for the vRS. Finally settled on the ABD Racing which my old black car was the development car for over here. It gave the best results for the Octavia at the time (early 2002).

SO!! :P Again.

Now get that sodding ambulance of yours sorted and back on the road.

des as you are the man in the know if i run twin intercoolers will i get 60bhp more???

also going to get the car cleaned will this add to the power as there will be less resistance

Is you have been reading that Bengie skol of theory only modin??

But seriously, it all depends on the strew diameter........muwahahaha! oh oh stop my ribs are hurting.........muwahahaha

PS depends on the ohms you are running as to resistance.

i still fail to see why teh testing that you witnessed all those years ago is any more valid than the testing done by a magazine and how what i said isn't valid. if you did all this testing then surely you can't argue that not all IC's are the same and some will gain you power where others will lose you power especially when modified cars are the centre of the experimentation.

I'm going to be fitting the same intercooler set up as Martin. I'm just now waiting for a free weekend to fit it.

Martin has been great in giving me advice & help whenever I have asked:thumbup:

I have bought things over a couple of months like RobClubley wants to do & SWMBO has suprisingly been cool about it.

I couldn't really justify, especially to SWMBO the cost of the Forge IC especially if there is something else cheaper & adequate to do the job with the mods I have got. With the second baby on its way, I can't see me going the large turbo route otherwise I would have considered the Forge IC.

How many mags have done extensive tests of any kind of mod on a Skoda Octavia vRS?

I can quote lots of turbo, CIA, FMIC etc tests done on all manner of cars till the cows come home. Means nothing because it wasn't carried out on the car in question. Even a Mk4 Golf 1.8T will give different results to a vRS. We found that the shorter exhaust on the Golf gave a 5bhp drop in power when fitted to the vRS after a remap.

Who said all IC's are the same?

That's why I opted for the ABD as it gave the best results for the KO3.

Get in touch if you need any more help, its going to be nice to hear another opinion especially with the narrower 57mm pipe work.

i can see the exhaust making a difference as lengths and routes etc will change but the car its bolted to makes no difference to a fmic when nothing but the IC itself is being changed as no other factors like pipework length, diameter are changing.

but i can see where your coming from with regards to a lot of mods.

how did you do the rebeading for the pipes? and which intercooler was it off ebay that you got?

Thanks for that:thumbup: think i will have a go at that this spring. maybe asking you for some of your wisdom when i get round to it.:D

Your bumper will cover alot of the 12" height also it is 3" wide so not sure it will fit behind the crash bar you would have to measure. If your after a twinpass cooler it will always have to be a tall one sadly and a bumper mod maybe required to get the best out of it.

The fact that the inlet and outlet are on the same side is what I liked.

That's what the Forge one is like :D

Hmm, back to plan A I think - 59 quid postage to NZ making the cost $429 compared to one like yours at $210

I think the Forge Front Mount intercooler must be close to 3" wide. Will measure it when i get the car back from the garage.

What do you all think about going the twin cooler route like the TTs?

What do you all think about going the twin cooler route like the TTs?

You will have to then deal with fitting a TT intercooler on the near side wheel arch and then routing the pipework up to the turbo inlet, which is on the opposite side of the car. Also if i recall the Audi TT has the inlet manifold throttle body mounting on the opposite side to the VRS which makes life easier for fiitting a twin cooler set up.
