Oil

Featured Replies

My 1.8TSI has just had its first service (I have the 3 free services within the finance package) so now, according to paperwork from dealer, it has VW 502 specification oil. If the oil needs topping up before the next year's service, is it OK to use VW 504 specification oil?

Thanks for any advice

When I asked about oil a couple of weeks ago I was told VW 504 Specification was good for all current petrol models.

VW504 is the longlife oil.

This will be fine to use for the shorter oil changes or for oil top up purposes.

If the dealer has told you VW502 is the oil your car needs for fixed servicing (I'd check the manual as this sounds wrong, but I don't know much about the petrol engines) then you would be able to top up with this too.

Just make sure you look for the VW oil standard on a tin of oil rather than the oil grade such as 5w-30.

FWIW halfords have 5L of VW 504 oil at £41 or 4L of Mobil 1 ESP at £37 at the moment.
