when do you all get ur car serviced

Featured Replies

i have been informed by my service station that i have to service my car every

6000 kilometers = 3728.22715 miles

do you all follow the same ... thanks

You could do what the rest of us do and follow what it says in the service book, for us, that's every year or 10,000 miles, whichever comes first. I've been owning cars for nearly 20 years and none had a service interval that short. Diesel Vauxhalls (UK Opel) had an oil change at 4500 miles and a service at 9000.

All other cars have had service intervals of 9000 miles or greater.

hmmm very strange

i have a honda city ZX and the service manual says service after every

5000 kilometers = 3106.85596 miles

but thats the standard that happens in india...

The OP may not be in the UK, and many countries the Skoda Importer/dealers stipulate every 6000km ;)

You should always follow the manufacturers guidelines for your country in order to satisfy your warranty.

it depends on your location and terrain, in dusty areas your service is more frequent.

The intervals are 15 K for petroleum and 7.5 K for diesel engines as recommended for Turkey...

7.5 K intervals for diesel engines is due to the low quality of fuels in our country :(

It depends on mileage for me, when i was doing 700 miles a week last year i would change the oil and filter every 5k and service every 10k, just to be safe. Now im doing much less i will stick to the manufacturers recommendations.

700 miles a week probably meant you were doing long stretches of driving, where the engine warms up 100% and the oil is at its optimum.

This means the oil generally lasts better/longer.

The short journeys you do now would make me want to change the oil MORE frequently rather than less.

Regardless though, stick with manufacturers recommended or more frequent, or you will loose warranty (if you still have it).

Just a question on this my TDI 80 is 18months old with 5700 clocked and the maxidot says 1st service required at 8000. This contradicts somewhat the owners manual and some of my esteemed colleagues on this website. In other words should I book it in or leave it in the assumption that because the runs I do make are longer the oil / maxidot /management system are happy to extend the service period directive. That said I will go out today and it will say service required.

I see the reasons for the diesel's breathing issues effecting oil quality (service intervals) but at the stage we are at now surely there should be little difference between petrol viz diesel for the average driver on about 7000-10000 miles or less per annum. A cynical motorist might think it is more about generating income?
