Dodgy Claim?

Featured Replies

A company called TCM Claims management called SWMBO at the house this morning saying they are working on the AA’s behalf (Her Insurer) and saying that someone has made a claim against her having pulled out of a side street into someone elses car on Mon 3rd November.

She has no recollection of this happening and I’m sure she’d remember something like that.

They have no other details, no policy number, no accident details absolutely zip, this concerns me a bit.

On that day SWMBO was at work during the day or at home in the evening, fortunately her movements at work are documented so she can prove her whereabouts at what time during the day.

The company left a contact 0870 number and a reference number to get in touch, but until I get home theres nowt I can do.

It sounded like phishing to me but really confused, other than that the only thing I can think of is that it is a cloned car :S

Sound dodgy?

Yep - sounds very dody - If it is a real claim then your insurer should know about it so contact them and ask them?

That does sound dodgy.

I had this guy yesterday approach me about a scratch on my Fabia, and claimed that I had hit his car but I argued that I didnt and and there was now dark blue paint on his car, I won.

It does sound dodgy as I would of thought that her insurer would have contacted her saying there has been a claim made against her.

If it related to a claim, the insurer contacts direct. Phone the insurer and check. Pass on all details that you have for this company to them, sounds very dodgy.

What's the number, lets all call it.

They are a valid company, based in Stoke-On-Trent specialising in uninsured loss recovery, and authorised by the Ministry of Justice (for Injury Compensation Claims).

But don't do anything until you have spoken to your Insurers. (It may just be coincidence that they are acting for AA as well ) It does sound odd that you or SWMBO have no recollection of this.

Call her insurer and tell them about it.

State no such accident has happened and you believe it to be fraudulant.

Also might be worth contacting the police as it's obviously a fraud of some sort. I'm guess they are either fishing for details to either use for a fake claim or to use for Credit card fraud etc.

Just phoned them.

TCS it turns out the name of the company is, work on behalf of Kinetic insurance, who are brokered by the AA

TCS have absolutley no details of the accident, and after a heated discussion on the phone with them I have eventually found that the claim has been submitted by a team of solicitors in Glasgow.

Managed to get their number and a reference number and gave them a ring, They dont know what car their 'client' drives and are going to call them to get more details on the 'incident'.

I guess at this time on a Friday i wont hear more today.

hopefully I get their details from the solicitors soon ;)

Get a copy of today's paper and photograph the front of your other half's car with the paper on the bonnet. Use a disposable camera to avoid any claims of tampering. Then on Monday, your missus can get her attendance details from her HR department. Then you can provide the evidence that she couldn't have been involved to the claimant's solicitors. Oh, and tell her own insurers about it too...

Cloned car? Wrong number plate documented somewhere?

Thats what the solicitors are hoping for, I informed them if it wasnt I would be passing their details on to the local bobbies.

Honestly, on the top of a cack day this is all I needed :D

Counter claim for distress caused?

Seriously, SWMBO called someone today (debt recovery) and they said they would sue here firm for the stress caused over a car they handed back months ago, and still being hounded.

Hounded for the dents all over it, other damage, missed payments, and the recovery agents costs for lifting it from her driveway @5am because she refused to pay the monthly premium due. Not couldnt pay, wouldnt as car didnt run right.

SWMBO simply advised her that she works for a solicitor firm, and could transfer the call to the relevant dept to start her claim. Oddly, the phone went dead at that point.
