Right then! Which one of you...

This is like a maniac who wants to release a nuclear arsenal and has his finger on the button but has to get the ok from the boss, except this time it's James' finger on the enter button while the order page is up.

Skoda Finance will give you back 33% after 3 years at 6k per year if you take the car out on PCP

So what are they saying the residual would be on a realistic business user contract of, say, 25,000 miles per year? There must be a point where it's literally cheaper to buy the car rather than lease it because the residuals would be so appalling.

I'm looking at a biggish engine Audi at the moment and the lease residual is 45% at 3 years with 90,000 miles on it.

I quite fancy one, and I probably even qualify for the business user discount pricing, but you'd need to go waaaaay beyond that to get me into the showroom with a pen.

[Edit]Just working this out based on specs and discounts on Drive the Deal, then using my preferred leasing provider - I can get a new 3.2l Quattro A4 Avant Auto Exec for just under £200 less per month even allowing spec. for spec. pricing. On paper that car is £10K more than the Superb, but the differences in the initial discounts (almost £6000 off vs. £1250 on the Skoda) and the residuals are just so great that the Audi is a lot cheaper.

Someone at VAG in Milton Keynes has got their numbers wrong somewhere.

They should just price it at £20K to start with and then they might sell a couple.[/Edit]

also the drop in power wont make it a exceptionally fast car, but more of a brisk cruiser.

The 3.6 does 62mph in 6.6s and a top speed of 155 (limited?) which are both quicker than a Focus ST so calling it merely a brisk cruiser seems a little harsh! Maybe not such a good example because those cars are in different classes but given that the Superb is vastly bigger, quicker and MPG is not much worse I don't see why the car is that bad a proposition.

Having said that, I wouldn't buy a new one myself unless I was really rich, but like a few others have said, two or three years down the line this could be a bit of a bargain!

You ordered it yet James? Surely the dealer principal wants a nice new car to roll round in?? :P

Get it in mocca with ivory and it will be perfect. :)

James, did you read post 6 ?

I am just wondering, most cars as the power / speed goes up, the makers will upgrade the suspension / brakes to cope , have Skoda done so here or is it set up the same as a 1.9 TDi

Yes, it's basically the Passat R36 running gear, so it's quick and it stops and handles well. It's also about £7,000 less than an R36, but arguably not as pretty.

It's 40Hp less but the Skoda has leather, Sat Nav and AFL all included in the price. They both have the same torque!

Remap and a charger time?

hummm I need to get Paige a car soon ;)

Here in Ireland you can get it in base S spec

no price confirmed yet though !

I cant believe the prices in ireland. the 1.8TSi DSG is €38,000, isnt that about £31k ??

True it is not slow, but then I wouldnt call a focus ST a quick car to be honest, for me it has to be below 6 seconds..!

At that point, you'll find me on 2 wheels . Can't see the point in going sub 6 in a cage, as they're either really expensive or stripped out vehicles, I'd rather be on a bike anyway.

Besides, once you're doing the wrong side of 150, it makes no odds on what you're in, it's gonna hurt a lot if you stop suddenly

Would rather stop quickly from 150 in a cage than on two wheels tho

You dont need to go that far to get to sub 6, try an old S4 and chip it, 330bhp 0-60 in 5 secs for about £5k - obviously a bike is quicker in a straight line but a passat estate could give a bike a serious ragging on country lane, (depending on driver obviously!)

I would still fancy my chances more on four wheels with a cage than on a bike, the only advantage with a bike crash at 150mph is that a: you can write your will on the way down and b: the police don't need to close the road, only hose it down!

:)

Horrific but very true! Mind you a crash in a car at 150 wouldn't do you an awful lot of good either

I must be doing something seriously wrong:(
