Soon to be exiting the warranty period

Featured Replies

Is it best to have the 3 year service done before this warranty expires?

also can you ask them to inspect suspension ect so that they can spot if there are parts that need to be replaced under warranty?

What's the best thing to do at this time? I don't want to have a big bill a few months after the service.

Are there any parts that I can specifically ask to be looked at at this period? maybe ones that will need to replaced around this time?

thanks

Chris

1)Suspension in general

2)Door seals are definate must to be checked!

3)Turbo + pipes

and er.... cant think right now but Def those three.

A little trick of the trade. Ask for a slightly early MOT if your dealer does them. Any fail points have to repaired under warranty, unless it's due to fair ware and tare.

I did this on Friday with my wife's car. the MOT was due today but had it done early.

Fairly impressed VW main dealer charged £48.95 for the test when it should be £53.10.

Unfortunately for me the only issues were down to wear and tear, 1 tyre excessive wear on the inside edge caused by saw toothing apparently, and an advisory on 1 of the front braked pads and an indicator bulb whitening.

Worth paying a little extra for piece of mind I think!

thanks for these tips people.

Makes sense to have the MOT done early.

Thanks

For what these so called technician's do when they service your car is a complete rip off, i just had my 2nd service, all they done was change the oil and filter, replace the pollen filter, fill up the washer tank, do there so called checks and supply me a tub of brake fluid and charge me £182, the chap who done my car couldnt even be bothered to clean up the oil he spilt, and i cleaned the engine bay before the car went down there, they just dont give a ****! Id do the service yourself and save a load of money, robbing ********!

If I had a little mechanical experience then I probably would. seen as it's exiting the warranty period I don't mind paying the money for a dealer to do it.

I did get my 2nd year service done by a local garage who did a great job and treat me like a person and not a number like the dealers did. I saved some cash but this year i'd rather go with the dealer just incase they see some work to be done.

Then again If I got the MOT and service done else where and they noted problems that could be done on warranty I could then go to the dealers knowing full well there are issues.

Is it advantageous for a dealer to do the work under warranty or just let it go out with slight issues that could be done under warranty and then get paid 100% for the job in a few months time?

hope that question is not a riddle to you all.

If you have a trusted dealer I would get the MOT and Full Service done by them. There are good and bad dealers, so finding an honest one is worth it's weight in gold. A good dealer will be honest, and pickup on any items needing replaced while still in warranty, although certain items may fall under wear and tear, like clutch, suspension bushes.

A bad dealer, will say every-things fine, even if they can see potential problems, and hope you come back to them for repairs when the faults start happening.

The problem with the current MOT rules, are they only state that the parts examined were OK on the day of inspection, so you don't really have a leg to stand on, even if something goes pop the next day.

That's why I have used the same garage for 24 years for my MOTs. They still only charge £30, and are as honest as a day is long. I also have an excellent Skoda dealer. The moral being, if you find a good garage (and there are some out there) stick with them.

Please identify the excellent dealer, i would take a day off and drive two hours to visit one.

ps, just paid £165 for a 20k service at prestige coventry, service not bad but could have been better.

West End Skoda Uphal/Broxburn, a wee bit too far for you me thinks.

For MOT I use RCA MOT Stoneyburn West Lothian.

Skoda warranty dont mean jack anyway, most people say they dont want to know if you've got something wrong, that's what give's skoda a bad name and why it puts people off buying one.
