VRS Uprated Turbo?

Featured Replies

Hey guys, What turbo upgrade options are available for the Fabia VRS and Also any rough idea on prices and which are best to go for? i have read somewhere that the Turbo from a PD150 Golf will fit straight on? is this true? Would it be worth buying one and getting it rebuilt then fitted? Cheers in advance for all replies.

Are they the Garrett ones?

stage 2 turbo is on my shopping list :D

Allard hybrids are pretty good. My garrett has something special in it I'm sure. Exactly what it is I am not sure. Think it is a VNT22 with some tweaking.

Is that the stage 2 ? how much was it if you dont mind me asking ?

Yes it is. Think I paid close to a grand through my mate. If you want one then he can order them from turbo dynamics. Takes about a week to come because they build them up.

Will the Turbo from a PD150 Golf fit straight in place of the PD130 turbo? A straight out and in job? or are there modifications required to any parts? Cheers for all current replies too.

You'll need to rotate the housing if you fit one from a Golf. Apart from that, yes it will fit. You'll have to renew bolts and gaskets though. Best to get it done properly.

I run a Garrett GT1749VB (which is the proper name for the turbo fitted to a PD150 Golf), then uprated the stage 1 by Turbo Dynamics.

You really need to decide what you want out of the modifications you have planned and not just follow what others have done. Talking to Turbo Dynamics would be a good idea.

MAke sure everything is cleaned out. Intake pipes, boost pipes and intercooler at very least cleaned if not replaced.

Re occuring turbo failures are normally always down to one dying and bit of it left in the system when then damage the new one. And the bits get everywhere. I have just done one where there were particles from the old turbo stuck in the back of the air filter.

How hard is it to "Rotate the housing"? What does it require and also can you explain to me what the housing is please?, cheers. With regards to plans, i wasnt really looking to go for mental power, i was more than happy with the car at standard power, its just something to look into for the future. so i can get an idea of cost etc. i was just thinking that if i used the turbo from a 150 Golf say i got the turbo rebuilt too then fitted a front mount intercooler then it would both Look good due to the FMIC and also allow slightly more power output than the standard turbo without going too far to the limit of the PD150 turbo.

Yeah everything is off and the SMIC has gone to be replaced by a forge FMIC. Will clean the old pipes out as there full of oil

rotating the housing (if the same as on the turbos I've had so far) involves undoing the bolts on the side of the housing enough to allow you to turn where the pipes end, then refasten them.

Easiest option is to take the old turbo off, put the new turbo by the side of it, so you can align the pipes. Job done after that :)

Hmmm, "seems" simple enough. What power is the turbo from a pd150 Golf rated as a maximum?
