Testament to Skoda build quality

We don't really get much bad winter weather in the uk. It's just that folk are a bit pathetic now and generally cannot cope.

This is in response to all the threads about needing 4wd and winter tyres not slating your missus for the accident.

Your wife was very lucky, glad she walked away. A lesson for us all to be a bit more careful I think.

I can see you are a well balanced and considerate person:rolleyes:, but whilst I agree that the Octy accident probably wouldn’t have been avoided with 4WD as it happened on black ice and it is probably that nobody could have avoided the accident in the first place.

I travel on my own, at any hour of the day and anywhere in Britain. 4WD is a great option to have whilst I can afford it. I considered the Octy, but it is a bit too long for me. Btw this is my 3rd 4x4 and I have enjoyed advantages that these vehicles bring on many occasions. I remember being the only person to get out of Balmoral one evening a while ago thanks to 4x4.

Sorry to hijack the thread a little Pillgram. Hope you get your Octy back on the road soon.

Regarding my "sarcastic" comment about the population in general being pathetic you just have to look at the news when there is the lightest dusting of snow and see how the road network grinds to a halt.

I do not disagree that there are times that a 4x4 would be useful. It is just that they are few and far between.

I too would like one if I could balance the running costs with my expenses.

My comment really was that in general people are losing driving skills due to being cocooned in a warm, comfy car packed with electronic gizmos to get them out of situations. It's as if people can no longer "read" the conditions that they are driving in because stuck in their cosy wee box they are so far detatched from it.

I've said it in a previous post but the best way to learn roadcraft in my opinion is to ride a motorcycle for a period in your life.

And as for black ice, sorry but . :P

Why the ROFL smiley?? that night having seen all the blue lights down the road and my missus being late home from work I legged it to find out what was going on, it happened half a mile from home, the road was like an ice rink, one of the coppers said that he almost lost it approaching the bend from the opposite direction, so what of you snidey comment??

I don't think "black ice" is considered a pc term any longer should probably be "invisible hazardous frozen water" or something equally as daft.

Personally as stated before I am NOT having a dig at your wife's misfortune and I would hope no one else is too.

I've obviously been in the civil service too long because I now worry about everything I say in case it ends in a disciplinary.

What about the car? What kind of state is it in?
