Problem with Octavia Symphony HU

Featured Replies

I've had a good look through previous posts but can't seem to find an answer to this.

MY HU will not illuminate with the rest of the dash, turns off after an hour and also doesn't turn off when the the ignition key is removed.

I've checked all the fuses and the interior light is functioning correctly with removal of the ignition key.

This has been the case since I got the car, the headunit is not the one supplied with the car as there wasn't one, the headunit was taken from a 53 plate Octavia vRS.

If there was no head unit supplied with the car (second hand?) then would it be a fair guess that the previous owner had an aftermarket HU in it, which they then removed?

You might find they've left their loom adapter connected, which would explain your symptoms. If you're lucky, this is the case and you just need to unplug it. If you're unlucky, they were a cheapskate and swapped the wires in the loom itself, which would involve a bit of hacking to swap back over...

This is what I was thinking could be the problem, I may try calling the previous owner if I can get his phone number from the details on the log book.

BTW any clues as to which wires need swapping? I know on VW's it is just two wires which are swapped.

The same on the Skodas...think it's red and yellow...

The pin diagram can be found here: http://cars.packetradio.co.uk/octavia/radio.htm

I *think* it's the battery positive and ignition switch which need swapping, but it's been a while since I've messed around with it to recall...
