the cc in my vrs is inop just been to the dealers and he said need the car for an hour £65 to wack it on a diagnostic machine could be the stalk . is this 65 down the drain and is there a common prob i could try first:mad:

Are your brake lights working??

Could be a few things, the charge is to get the diag scanned. See if you can find a member near you with vagcom (vcds) that can do it for beer tokens.

Which vrs have you got (fab, Octy1 Octy2 ?) as you'll get more response in the right forum.

The most common cause of cruise failure seems to be the brake light switch. There's also a switch on the clutch (at the top of the pedal I assume, but I've never looked). If either of these switches are faulty then the ECU could think the offending pedal is being pushed, which would cancel cruise.

The early style stalks also seem prone to failure and have since been revised.

There's a list of people with VAG-COM. There's likely to be someone in your area who would be willing to help. With VAG-COM you can scan for fault codes and also test various components (including the stalk itself). The owners list is here: http://briskoda.net/diagnostics-vag-com/vag-com-owners-map/80992/

Just checked and I see you have a 53plate Octavia vRS, so you need someone who has either a HEX lead, or the HEX+CAN lead.

Have you really been trying since April to get it fixed?
