vRS TDi PD - Resonance at 1500 +/- 250 rpm

Featured Replies

I'm currently hearing, and slightly feeling a nasty resonating/rattling sound at around 1250-1750rpm - it doesn't matter what gear i am in, or what speed i am travelling

If i am rolling along, and press on the Clutch, the sound disappears (so suggesting it isn't Gearbox, luckily, i'm already on my second one of those...), But, if the clutch pedal is down, and i rev like this, the resonance is still there

It also does it when stationary (in Neutral as well)

Its been like this for a few weeks now, but doesn't seem to be getting any worse...

Could this be the DMF contemplating whether to **** itself or not?

The DMF/Clutch release mechanism sounds like a likely candidate.

I had one of my many give these symptoms before being replaced.

I'd have a look at the air inlet pipe at the front of the engine cover. They are made up out of about three different parts that clip together, these often come loose and make a resonance noise. Either that or the ECU bracket on the bulkhead usually.

I've noticed a similar noise lately, and only since my windscreen was replaced 4 weeks ago. I must mention when I get time. Will check the above first though.

Its definitely not the 3 pipes, they are tight and the joins sealed... ;)

I think Resonance wasn't the best word to describe it - i think i'll get it checked over with the rest of the warranty items i need attending...:rofl:

How about the engine cover? Frequently works loose.

Or something in the top box, glove box or door pocket? I suffer this, from the pens I keep in the top box. I've just got used to it now.

Well that blows that idea out of the water.

I'll agree with the air intake, mine was rattling like a good en!

Araldited them together, but started again....so i got extremely upset and ripped the pipe off the airbox.

Now it sounds like a canal boat chugging along on idle lol.

Just read your post above, bah.....dont know what else to suggest.

Oh check the fuel filter housing is sat in its lugs correctly, mine was moved for my clifford fitted and wasnt quite sat right. Made a racket too
