Warranty problems

Featured Replies

I have a problem and would appreciate any thoughts/ideas.

In February I bought a demo vRS from a South West based dealer, due to the fact it had the jumbo pack fitted, 18" rims etc.

I collected the car from the dealer, and to cut a very long story short, having driven halfway home found it was actually on 17" rims. I therefore phoned the dealer, and they (albeit reluctantly) swapped 18" rims from another demo they had in stock for sale. Two of the alloys are now flaking, and Skoda UK are telling me that they are not covered under warranty as they are not the original rims on the car, and that it is the dealer's responsibility to sort.

Has anyone else had a similar problem?? Having spoken to people in the industry, it is normal to swap wheels from other cars if it helps seal the deal. The question is, who then is responsible for issues such as mine? At present I am being offered a local refurb. of the 2 wheels, or taking the vehicle back down South to swap another pair of wheels.

Can anyone offer any advice, or thoughts? All would be much appreciated.......

I'd get yourself a quote for complete reconditioning of the wheels at a good place then ask the dealer to pay some of it.

It sounds to me like they might have had a face only recon already and that it might not have been done so well.

Get the dealer to sort it out as its there problem.Good luck

Agree - your contract is with the dealer. Although when I had warranty issues the dealer washed their hands of it and blamed Skoda UK for the decision.

The problem that worries me most is who is now responsible for the wheels for the rest of the warranty period? If the other wheels begin to flake, am I expected to liaise with a dealer in Dorset all the time? It seems a little strange, and not what I would have expected.......

This dealer in Dorset isn't just outside of Wimborne are they?

IMHO all you can do is get a quote so you know how much it will be then tell the dealer that you expect them to fix it.

They can either collect your car, fix it and deliver it, send up 4 new alloys and pay for you to have the tyres changed and collect the old one or they can arrange for them to be reconditioned at their cost and they can warrant it for remainder of warranty.

All IMHO of course.
