Renault advert...name 3 you wouldn't mind though

I wrote a Fuego off when I was 19, luckily it wasn't mine but it did cost me my job at the time as the company nark came round suggesting me and the other lad had been racing at the time and then going to the boss with his tale of the local GP, anyway I reckon that car had some serious design flaws on it regarding weight distribution as all I did was to prepare for a junction by applying the brakes, this threw me into the path of oncoming cars which I managed to miss but sadly the lampost had me as I got it back on the right side of the road, this was inexperience of FWD that did this tbh as I had the brake pedal hard down by then instead of steering out of it, anyway the bumper ended up in a field, the gearshift moved back some 5 inches and I climbed out unhurt due to having the belt on, a few years later the then landlord of the pub I used had one and managed to total it also, this time it was on a dual carraigeway bend, he said it just broke away from him and he ended up with the car behind him in with him.

Wife has had two brand new Renaults, a 99 T Megane 1.6 hatchback and a 02 Scenic 1.8. Both were reliable and spent less time in the garage for warranty work than the VW Golf and Audi A4 that I drove at the same time. Plus they were really easy to sell on at a decent price.

Old Renaults I liked were the Gordini / Turbos', Fuego looked ok (certainly more modern than the Capri at the time) and the Alpines.

I love my Fab VRS as my daily shed, have a Spider in the garage, currently tucked away for the winter.

I dont think I have met anyone who has seen the Spider in the flesh and said they didn't like it.

Maybe they are just being kind.

It was the scissor doors that did it for me.

French cars are usually very comfortable and dare I say it stylish, but they fall to bits in no time at all.

Didn't you mean "Avantime, Espace and Vel Satis" then? You could just about put a Clio Williams in the back of an Avantime! ;)

Er no. When I am minister for transport, road tax will be worked out on the aspect ratio of the car, so all of the above will fall into the £5000 per year road tax band. Seriously, of all the car makers out there, Renault have probably made more affordable and brilliant drivers cars than any other manufacturer.

Blue over silver?

Yes, blue over silver/grey.

The 5 turbo was an awesome car in its day, affordable and quicker than most things up to 100mph.

Renault have done some great cars, Clio Williams, A610, 21 Turbo.

But as already said, shame they are not a bit better put together.

3 Renaults?

I wanted a Megane (the shake it one) was thinking of buying one back in 2004 cause they had free insurance on the Extreme. Nice enough interior though.

The Avantime as that just looks bonkers!!!!

And problably the Safrane

Megane R26-R

Peugeots are little tin boxes that rust away and the electrics fall apart, but at least some of them handle ...

More than 30 yrs. ago I had a Renault 16. Very comfortable with it's armchair like seat,I quite liked the coloum gearchange! Ok I'm a bit odd. Then it started to run a bit rough. I traced the problem to a worn bush in the distributer. Took the bush (worth pence) to the dealer, to be told I can only buy a complete new distributer, cost well over 100 pounds, a lot of money then. I fixed it by breaking up an old feeler guage and pushing some of the resulting 'shims' down between the sahft and the bush. That worked fine for thousands of miles till the car went due to big ends. But I guess nothing has changed with the parts supply issue. Please dont tell me i'm off topic here, ok well do, if you must

mate had a fuego turbo a few years back. Amusing thing. About the only one which springs to mind right now, anyway.
