Tyre wearon Octavia 1.9 4X4

Featured Replies

Back in June I reported that the tyre wear was even and at 4mms all round.

I expected the tyres, factory fitted Dunlop SP1, to require changing at about 24000 miles.

The forum replies indicated that the majority expected a few thousand miles more than this before a change was necessary on similar 4X4's

The car was services today at just under 20,000 miles, all tyres have worn evenly but are now down to 2mms. This seems excessive, 1mm per 3 thousand miles, over the last 6,000 miles. Tyres have been maintained at the correct pressure and the driving environment has not changed.

I would like to hear from other 4X4 1.9 drivers at to their tyre life expectancy.

In light of the above any further recommendations for brand of four new tyres would be most welcome.

Thank you::

Hi

I've just replaced all 4 on my Octy 4x4 Tdi 55 plate - 24,500 miles with the rears on the tread wear indicators and the fronts with about 2mm left - tryres were factory fitted Michelin Pilots from new and I ve replaced them with like for like. Michelin are claiming 20% longer life and to be honest my last Octy 4x4 had Pirellis on and they were sh#te so I'm sticking what I know works for me.

Hope this helps

Tyre life has very different objectives nowadays....

Can i ask how well did your tyres perform during the 24k?... The requests at the tyre manufacturer is to keep the modern car with all it's power and suspension technology "on the road"... Tyre preservation has become secondary factor since both requests cannot be answered.

An extreme example..... I have an owner of a Ferrari F430 which runs 335/30-19 Michelin Club Sport tyres on the rear. This car went to Germany to have two superchargers fitted/ tested then back to the UK..... It's rear tyres lasted one week/ 1040 miles.

Just about to replace all four tyres - 05 1.9 4x4 -michelin pilots - 36,000miles -don't know exact depth of tread left but they look to be down to the legal limit.
