Help/Advice needed!!

Featured Replies

My drivers door lock has stopped working.

It's almost certainly the door lock solenoid because the door still locks/unlocks fine on the key (and still controls the other doors on the key) but the drivers door lock won't lock/unlock on the fob, or the switch inside the door.

Anyway,

how on earth do I detatch the outer door pull from the lock mechanism?

I've got the door card off, undone the two largebolts that hold the catch in place, but I can't pull the lock out becuase it's still attached to the door handle on the outside of the door.

Anyone??

(even being able to remove the outer door handle might help...)

There are 2 torx screws (covered by grommets and seen with the door open at the base of the window frame), one holds the lock (remove completely) the other rotates a cage which aligns slots to allow the barrel to be pulled in and out, unscrew this carefully whilst pulling on the lock (key inserted may help), be carefull not to unscrew completely as the cage will drop into the door.

Before doing this check very carefully the wires on the door control unit, especially the yellow/red one in the centre column, I have seen one of these break with exactly the same symptoms you describe.

Off outside now. I'll report back in a few minutes...

bad contacts in the yellow/red wires. B*ll*cks!

I wiggled them around and the locks worked; so I put everything back together again and guess what?

Doesn't bl**dy work again!

How on earth does the lock mechanism come out of the door? Do you have to take the window lifter channel out first?

No idea, but could you get a toothbrush (melted and bent if necessary) in at the contacts? If so, you might be able to polish them in situ?

Here's an update - managed to get the entire lock out by loosening the window lifter; and replaced it with a new lock (well, a seond hand one from the scrap yard that I KNEW worked fine)

Fitted it all back together, tested it - fine - so I put the door card back on (three times because I kept forgetting bits!!!)

It worked once more, then...

NOTHING!

I'm beginning to f**king hate this car...

That suggest to me that the problem is that one or both of the wires are broken internally; continuity tester time!

Could be Ken...

trouble is, it's too cold outside now and I can't be arsed. I think I'll just leave it as it is until the lock breaks as well (only a matter of time I'm sure)
