Fabia Oil Change Advice

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

Im about to change the oil on my 2001 1.4MPi. Just wondering what type of oil i should opt for? Im not sure wether to go for semi-synthetic, synthetic, or whatever... Hopefully someone can make me a reccomendation?

Thanks in advance guys.

All the best.

Boggo Castrol GTX meets the specs for the MPi

10w/40 Semi synthetic should be fine

Hi guys.

I'm also doing an oil change soon on my 1.4 mpi, i have noticed asda are selling castrol gtx for £16 and gtx magnatec for £22, is the magnatec worth the extra expense?.

I get my MPi serviced at an ex Skoda dealer and they use GTX Magnatec in it , that should be fine. Mind you , I only done 2700 miles since the last service so you could have had my old stuff lol ;)

Yep, any well branded 10w-40 semi synthetic will be fine.

One comment about Castrol oils, they are great, tend to be based on "virgin" oil stock (if that rocks your boat), but I think that Castrol fixes the retail price, that means no bargains - but you might get a "toy" free (again if that rocks your boat). I've used Magnatec in the past believing on their extra wear resistance, have you considered using Fuchs oils - GSF sell them at good prices - maybe have a look on the Fuchs website and see which one suits your engine - BTW GSF send out web orders postage free (well they did last time I used them).

Opie oils sells both Castrol and Fuchs plus 5 other brands and Members here get an automatic discount so check out Opie Oils - Oil Recommendations Specialists | Find the right Engine Oil & Performance Products

Castrol are dearer than most and totally agree that compared to others they are usually more expensive but they have a good reputation.

There are always offers around though and not only a free toy! Try the buy 4L and get 5L offer currently on our website!

Castrol Magnatec and Castrol GTX offer - 1 litre free

Hmm...just had my annual service and they didnt use Magnatec this year , I have been billed for Quantum oil (IIRC is a VW owned brand?) , it certainly was a lot cheaper than the Castrol , hopefully it will be okay for the ancient design of the Mpi's 8V motor! (no oil spec listed on the invoice)

It's a trade brand made for the dealers.

The supplier changes based on the best price but I think the current blender is Castrol
