Stream MP3 showing 'safe'

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I got hold of an MP3 Stream unit yesterday to swap with my non MP3 Stream.

Fitted it today and turned it on, prompted for the code - pressed the wrong buttons a couple of times and it displayed 'Safe' - powered off and back on, back to code screen.

Entered the code I was given with the stereo but nothing happened so assumed I needed to 'enter' it somehow (e.g. pressing enter on a computer keyboard after typing some input) and pressed a couple of random buttons.

It displayed 'safe' again but now doesn't give me the option to enter a code :(

Have I locked it somehow, anyone have any ideas how to proceed? I've read a couple of threads that suggest give it's not an original unit it needs to be coded to my VIN perhaps?

Ok maybe I should have read the manual before posting here.

Manual suggests it's locked for an hour (another thread suggested this, but for a Fabia Symphony) and you need to press the '<' button (back one track) to enter the code.

15 mins to wait and I'll try again :)

You will not have the correct code because they do not come with them.

You will need to take to a dealer to obtain the code :(

The code you have will only work for the car it originally came from. You need to visit the dealer.

Bum :(

Ok thanks all.

dealer as they will need your cars chasis number and the number on the stereo iirc.

Interesting development is.... it's all working :)

Waited the original hour, no joy - realised it probably needed to be turned on for that hour rather than off. Entered the code and pressed '<' as per manual and it did nothing, then tried the '>' button and the radio came on so the code was accepted.

CD changer sounded awful then found the answer from VRSStu regarding swapping the ground pins for the changer, now sounds perfect.

Added bonus is that it sounds _so_ much better than the standard stream unit - I found there was no bass at all so I'm well chuffed - all for £60.

So appreciate the replies but there's obviously more to these codes than meets the eye.

This is a load of bull.

The radio code is just for the radio. It doesn't care from what car it was from and to what car it is installed to.

The reason you need the chassis number and radio serial is because the dealer needs to verify the radio is from that car originally. This way they'll make sure the radio is really yours.

Easier way is to drive to the dealer's and ask them to retrieve the code from Skoda through online connection. They'll plug in their tester and a while later it will show you the code. Then you'll need to manually input it to the radio.

iirc once you enter the radio code it is "remembered" by the car so that if you remove the battery you don't have to re-enter the code on power up.

Yes, I read that today too and can confirm - I cut the power to the battery when changing the earth for the CD changer ((i.e. after I got the code working in the first place) and when I powered the stereo back on, 'Safe' display just for a second and then it went back to the usual radio screen again.
