Rear Door not opening

Featured Replies

Hi Guys, a month ago I picked up my new L&K 1.8 TSI hatch (replaceing a from new 1998 mk 1 1.8 20v SLX hatch), and I am generally chuffed with the new blue beast, but yesterday I seemed to lose the ability to open the rear offside door. I've tried the remotes and wanderign through maxidot, and pulling the handles twice (inside and out) but nothing seems to work. Now it will be off to see my old mates at maud to get fettled under warranty, but I'd like to know if I missed a trick and how you open a door that is not behaving at all

If it's only opening from the outside, take a look near the door lock mechanism for a place where you can stick the top of the key in and turn it about 90 degrees in whatever direction it wants to.

That's the child lock feature that somebody probably messed with.

Alas it is not opening at all, it is just plain stuck. You can hear something when you fire the locking with the key, centre console button or remote, but I am hoping this isn't a repeat of the recurrign problem that the mk I octy had with the boot solenoid not always firing (at leat you could ping the hatch manually from inside, if you cannot open the door at all I think you are trying to strip out the door card without the lucury of being able to get to the door card fastners cos the door is shut!:(

Seeing you are up in bonnie (freezing) Scotland; any possibility it has got iced up!

No, car lives in heated garage min temp 6 C.

I had central deadlocking installed on a 1990 Ford Laser I had. After twice having to remove the door trim to get the door open I disabled the deadlocking (I was concerned about being deadlocked outside the vehicle).

All these electrical gubbins are fine and dandy when they are working 100%, but can leave you a bit vulnerable if the only way of locking a door is with the electrics, but the electrics are no longer functioning as the dsigner intended.

Car came back today having caused a great deal of confusion in the workshop, the door latch mechanism had come adrift and would not rotate off the stiker bar. Apparently opening the door took them ages, but all happy now. Thanks for your help on this guys.:)

Glad to hear you have a result; well done.
