vrs fuel system problems (petrol)

Featured Replies

Anyone had issues with the fuel system on their vrs?

My vrs died on me in (in a previous thread), dealer replaced fuel filter and thought they fixed it. Got it home and the check engine light lit up again. Taken it back, the dealer says they have to compile a dis? report to send to Skoda Technical for advice. This normal for faults or am I privileged enough to have mine throw a unique wobbly?

The error is on the low pressure side of the fuel system. (P2540 low pressure fuel system sensor circuit range).

Ta.

This error I think is due to the Fuel Pressure Sensor failing.

The sensor is mounted directly onto the fuel pump itself. As you look at the pump its the part on the left that has a wiring loom plugged into it.

- Get this replaced and that should hopefully help you.

Garage replaced fuel pump, still not right. Thankfully they are being through with road tests and seeing the issue. 2 weeks without the car so far :-( , 1.2 fabia at the mo, overtaking now requires military precision!

Just the fuel pressure sensor, ecu and pump controller to go... (unless I've missed anything).

I have a vague idea there was recently some kind of "campaign" (not allowed to call it a recall on this forum ;) ) for Golf GTIs involving fuel issues. Might be worth doing a search to see if the symptoms are similar to yours.

Ta, found that TSB the other week. Printed it out, told the garage and left it in the car for them. But so far their tests show the sensor to be ok. Also found some info that passat fuel pumps have been dying but now mines replaced I assume it rules that out. Why on earth have VAG made it so complicated to pump fuel from one end of the car to other?!

I have got this problem at the minute.

I had a slight misfire detected in cylinder 3 & 4 and it said something about fuel system lean in code reader. This is a common (ish) fault with this engine and misleads air readings to a sensor & idle valve.

Take the engine service cover off and the cover around the dipstick as shown in picture

Where the hose disappears down through the silver casing at the front of the engine is where my leak is. try pushing it downwards and you might hear the same leak as mine. I found this leak by total accident. I have been fighting against the management light for a year and only found this leak when changing the spark plugs the other day = I lent on the pipe and it made the air noise. Hurray!

My Broth-in-law says this is a really common problem on this engine and strangely enough he did a Golf the other day with the same problem and it was the same leak found. the heat perishes the tube.

The $100 question is - does it make you ASR light come on when you are idling sometimes?

Hope this helps

Ta for that. Never had the ASR light come on. It all did start with a couple of misfires, before the engine died completely. Unfortunatly the garage has got my car so I cant pop out and look. But I'll speak to them tomorrow and pass the info on.

I'll be interested to hear what Skoda technical will of come up with as they must of told the garage to change the fuel pump.

Thanks for the input Banana-Man but thats a 1.8T, the OPs car is a 2.0 TFSi so somewhat different.

As mentioned there is a recall out on the VWs for theat fault, software upgrade and a modified sensor to sort it. The sensor sits in the fuel pump (as also mentioned).

DISS reporting is normal procedure, every warranty job has to have one to report to factory faults and concerns.

Cheers Lummox. Have mentioned pressure sensor recall to the garage but apparently mine checks out ok. Will have a chuckle if that is the issue after all, mentioned it when it first went in.

In case anyone else gets this the fix was to replace the fuel pressure regulator and the fuel pressure sensor. Good to have the car back, shame a bit of petrol was spilt on the carpet, hums a bit!
