My dads Xsara (54 plate) has this "hazard warning flash under hard braking" feature. Its quite a good feature imho, and would like to see it standard on all models.

It is however annoying when seriously making progress

My Italian VRS TDI has the warning light function.

I find it pretty smart!

You also have the adaptive brake lights as found on at least the 5 series BMW, I was following one (safely, mind) and he braked very hard on the motorway and the back lit up like a baboons ***. Much more light output than his normal brake lights and it's a very effective warning for the car behind.

The flashing emergency braking lights on the Mk5 Astra just look like an odd wiring fault IMO.
