couple of questions???

Featured Replies

first one, is it usual to have an alloys as the spare in a vrs?

and can you adjust the washer jes? mine seem to be pointing too high and spraying the bonnet a little. i've had a look but can't seem to adjust it at all.

I have an alloy wheel as my spare. Not sure if it was standard or an option. Mine has never been used, and still has the original tyre! Seems like a bit of a waste!

You can't adjust the washer jets on the vRS, as it's the facelifted model, and has a fixed spray pattern.

The only way to fix a dodgy spray pattern is to replace the plastic nozzles. It's an easy job as you just pop them out with your hands. My drivers side nozzle is spraying a bit odd at the moment, so I'll be replacing it at some point.

Just a thought, check that your scuttle panel is properly pressed down. Since the nozzles attaches to this panel, and any misalignments will put off the spray angle.

Having a proper wheel as opposed to a space saver means you can maintain a sensible speed with the spare on.

Can the nozzles not be adjusted with a pin?

FYI

VAG state you should use their own brand wash fluid too maintain the correct performance of the fan jet nozzles.

It's cheap enough but you have too get it from a VAG dealer.

Didn't think the octy ever came with a space saver. I assumed it was either full size alloy or steel, looking at the size of the hole in the boot! You could easily smuggle some bodies in that wheel well...

Can't adjust the nozzles with a pin, it's just a lump of plastic with a rectangular hole in it. I pulled mine apart at the weekend to see if you could.

I just use the halfords pre-mixed fluid, but I'll try some VAG stuff next time im in the dealer. Good point though.

cheers for the info guys, i'l have a look and see what the scuttle panel is doing and if its ok i may just change them.

and same as you bodge, the alloys brand spanking new, but it has had the tyre swapped over. (someone must have wanted the new tyre on the used aloys and the part worn on the unused alloy to save buying a new tyre)

Hi

yes the Octy vRS`s always came with a full size alloy

Never knew them to have a spacesaver

Even the 4X4`s came with full size alloys that is what makes them so different to the MK4 Golf`s as the wheel well is so large

Oh yes replace the sray on the washers as they are not adjustable

In theory the fan jets are non-adjustable, but if you stick a finger up inside the mounding they can actually be fiddled.

That said, does anyone think they are actually any better than normal spray heads that you can adjust to taste, use your preferred screenwash with (never mind how cheap the VAG stuff is; no-one else "has to use an OEM screenwash", and we don't all live next door to a VAG dealer anyway) and get replacements for from any accessory shop?

When I had my Octy (51 plate) it had 16s and a full sized steel as a spare. A few of the early mk1 hatch VRSs came with 16s so not sure if it was because of this that it had a steel spare.

I also had problems with the washers and once I'd gone back to the VAG stuff all was sorted (was using Halfords before).

Mine has a 16" full sized steel spare.

as everyone else has said the jets will need replacing - cost me 4.99 at Farmer's Leicester, and about 2 mins to fix - You'll probably need a flat bladed screw driver to remove the old ones (mine were pretty well stuck in) and then just plug in the hose and pop the new ones back in - makes a huge difference
