EPC and Brake Lights

Featured Replies

Had the dreaded EPC come on yesterday whilst driving. Seeing as the Fabia Bohemia was under warranty took it back to the dealer who sold the car to my wife's dad (who has since passed the car on to my wife). Have to say I've had a few run ins with the service dept when they had a Mazda dealership and frankly I would have preferred not to have to deal with them. Still seeing as it was under warranty I took it back there.

Problem was diagnosed as two blown brake lights. Cost for lights a reasonable fiver. However cost for labour turned out to be twenty plus quid.

WHY does the EPC light come on for blown brake lights? I could have changed them both myself. More to the point is this some money making scam for Skoda garages? Surely the EPC light should only come on for significant problems that require a diagnostic check not something like brake lights which any idiot can replace? And if Skoda are going to produce a fault system that does this then surely the least they can do is pick up the service labour charge as a result of my taking the car in for a fault that wasn't serious and could have been sorted by myself?

I'm phoning Skoda CS on monday morning to give them an earful but short of it is they have one very irate owner at this point. (Speaking of which I'm never going back to Henry's Skoda in Glasgow. They really ought to employ people whose first reaction to a disgruntled customer is not to get aggressive on the customer.)
