Carbon Fibre cosmetic mods??

Featured Replies

Hi all, a mates just bought a fabia VRS and as I do custom carbon parts I said I would do some research as to the availablity of quality parts for her car..

I've had a mooch around and not really found a lot, so decided to do some for her...

bought a radio surround, ashtray and gear lever surround off a member on here (trevor) and have just started wrapping it in carbon to see how if its a viable mod.. so far its looking good, straightforward enouh to do and the parts are ideal for this technique..

I have done lots of wrapping from different marques and thought I'd try the fabia, so as soon as the parts are done I will post up pics for comments from members on here...

all the best, any questions please ask, I can post pics of other bits I've done if anyone is interested..

Tony

have u done a carbon engine cover?

would love to see the pics when they are done

You'll have to join freedom if you intend to sell on here bud.

hi all, yeah no worries paying my way if anyone likes these after I've done the first set, or anything else that may look good wapped... if you can post a decent pic of the engine cover I could have a look...

so is there not a lot available for the skoda's then?? the stuff I've seen seems to be the sticker type kits, and doesnt seem to be a lot of real carbon around, unless anyone knows different??

heres a couple of pics of some of the stuff I've done, some from my jag and some from other cars:

hiya dan, hows that gorgeous car of yours doing... still spotless I hope lol...

yeah still doing the carbon, seems to be very little available for the skodas though which surprises me really... with such a poplar car I'd have thought there would have been a lot of aftermarket bits available..

talk soon mate... more then happy for you to have a look at this set when its done and report back on here...

all the best

Tony

So where do I send the money??? :D

Id be interested in gearstick trim and stuff like that.

Yes i'm still looking after the old girl but not driven it much recently:O

Agree that there aren't many parts available for skoda, especially in this country and like i said before i'd happily let you do some things for me but couldn't really think of what you could do to be honest,i'll have to let you take a look at my car at some point and give me some ideas but in the time been i'd happily take a look at what you get done and report back to the other members :D

lol.. Dave, I wouldnt dream of taking money off anyone until theres a full report on these by a respected, estabished member... they may turn out rubbish yet so as soon as they're done i'll get some pics up and let Dan have a look at them... I dont do this for a living by the way, its just a hobby, so my overheads are low and this is reflected in the prices, although low prices dont mean low quality, as everything I do has a full money back guarantee...

we'll meet up soon Dan, over the last year I have perfected both the fit and finish of the wrapping process and the results really are distinctive, more when I see you though... this set should be done by tuesday hopefully, so will post up pics and well sort a meeting out..

all the best

Tony

p.s. Dave, what would you consider to be a fair price for a full set of 3 centre console bits in carbon, ie stereo surround, ashtray and gear surround?

i have a spare engine cover u can have to do a rap if any good to you?pm me if interested.

Dave, what would you consider to be a fair price for a full set of 3 centre console bits in carbon, ie stereo surround, ashtray and gear surround?

I think the first set you make for me is free (with matching interior mirror, gear knob and door mirrors).

From then on, a set should cost £70-£95.

I dont think anyone will want to buy a set over £100

Going partly by this price:

MR2 MK2 Carbon Fibre Heater Control Surround Turbo N/A on eBay, also, Toyota, Car Parts, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 13-Jan-09 13:48:44 GMT)

Other things people will be interested in are door mirrors, engine and battery cover.

And if you can make carbon tubes, then intercooler pipes would go down well with some people.

Also, maby inside door handles or cards.

Im sure you will get a question about a carbon bonnet soon too.

Curtis, I think I have found a few pics of the engine cover and it looks pretty straightforward to cover... so you cant actually BUY a carbon engine cover for the fabia then???

Dave.. the link in your post if for a cut to shape, stick on sheet of (probably pre-preg) carbon, which is a lot different to what I do... but your suggested price isnt far away from what I was thinking anyway, which is always a good start lol..

my mate got her car on Saturday, so I'll have a look tomorrow and see if theres anything else that could be done, I'm sure there will be..

Tony

Ok Tony,i'll wait till i hear from you as i no longer have your number and i will be changing mine in the next couple of days so you can either pm me on here when your ready and i'll send you my new number when i know it :D

i have never seen one yet for the fabia vrs ,only the 20v turbos octavias

Those bits for the Jag look sweet as!

Could you do a set of wing-mirrors?

wot about a front spliter like the seat leon cupra r , that fits with the lines of the fab vrs:thumbup:

  • Author

no worries dan, will be in touch soon..

956curtis.. if no-one has done one, and you have a spare, maybe I should give one a go then?? what you think?? if people like it i'll let someone on here have it for the cost of the original item (to go to you) and the materials (to come to me)

dmac1969... my interior was very dark and uninteresting by jag standards so I thought the cabon would be something a bit different, especialy the weave I used... I am currently doing the armrest as well, which i've stripped of foam and leather and have a mate remodelling it before I carbon it, so intresting lol

wja96... wing mirrors could be possible, although it depends if yu can take the glass out to leave just the shell..

mostyn... i did a leon cupra splitter recently, and it was a nightmare to do as its one piece and was far more wotk then I could charge for, plus the new resins i use mean everything i do needs baking, and my little home made hotbox wouldnt fit in a one piece splitter lol..

all the best, thanks for the interest and hope to get bits to dan to assess soon...

Tony

The bits you've posted look good, and I'd potentially be interested in a few Fabia bits and pieces. The centre console surround is a prime candidate I think.

As for the wing mirrors, I think you could do them. The front covers come off, so no real problem there. Very similar in construction to other VAG stuff, like the Mk4 Golf (I'm sure there are carbon mirror covers available for that).

Cheers,

Steve

heres the other 2 pieces I have, they both need final finishing, and the ashtray needs one more coat of resin, but you'll get the idea... I'll get these finished over the next few days and see if Dan wants to have a look and assess them for people on here..
