AFAIK because the map must manage this. First there must be two plugs for the probes which keep the DPF monitored. Than map must manage the signals read by these probes. It's no more a milltek work, but a remapping one.

Ciao,

so your saying the DPF could be left in place and the ecu is mapped to simply ignore it?

Then you have the potential for clogging up the DPF (if the map is too strong/rich creating soot) and there being no means of triggering a 'regeneration' to clear it. :(

The main reasons for removing the DPF would be because it is potentially troublesome and, more importantly, to reduce back pressure in the exhaust that will release more power. :D

Noooo, I'm saying that the DPF may be removed but:

1) the empty tube must have the 2 plugs to host the 2 probes wired to ECU;

2) the ECU must be taught to manage what those 2 probes will measure, via an adequate remap.

Without DPF (and KAT, in SS setup), aside backpressure issues, you could inject more fuel, so getting more power w/o clogging anything.

HTH,

has any one had any experience of flat spots once the car has been remapped?

with my REVO Map, I have started to notice that after some hard driving it gets a flat spot on long accelerations such as 4th gear from 40mph-70 the power goes just before 3k rpm :thumbdwn: but then comes back. If its been driven steady it works fine. :) I Like!!!

could be a bit hairy while overtaking

Yes,

but you have to be "near" them...

Then it depends on how much you want it ;)

Custom code have DPF removal hardware and software ready to purchase.

I am very interested to see how this solution progresses. Whilst the dpf is a great idea in principle the reality is that it causes bar far the most amount of problems in TDi ownership!!!!!! I honestly think that Audi/VW/Skoda/Seat should have done more research before bringing DPF's onto production vehicles. By the way, mine is back at the dealers awaiting delivery of another bloody sensor (and back order due to high demand!!!!!)

Indeed Leigh just contacted me to inform that sw development going fine :D

hmm think the power and torque may be too much for my DSG box if i went for the DPF removal

Here we go, just had my PD170 on some Rollers with the REVO map. At the wheels it has 141bhp @ 3600rpm and 224lb @ 2350rpm. not sure how to convert that in to flywheel tho.

Mmmm....I know there may be a difference between VAG group vehicles (mines a Leon FR) but those figures seem low...especially with a map. BTW - I don't think Revo supply maps for these engines any longer...not sure why. I spoke to JKM at Portsmouth and was advised to that effect.

When Mine was done, they had to copy my ecu and send it off to revo for them to sort the map for it. on the day of the RR, most peoples car's appeared to be having low power. althought this produces more power and torque than a fiddled with 1.8T A3 which is good.

In Comparison, it had more bhp than a standard RX8 197 but not as much as a standard astra coupe 2L Turbo. but noone was close with torque

The map in my opinion, makes 1st and second gears unuseable if you want to set off quickly as it just spins the wheels if you go over 2k rpm. As far as DPF issues, i've had 4 tanks (3 asda, and 1 total excelum) through it, had the dpf checked and it was still at about 15% which is good. On a long run of motorway miles can average 49mpg.

So far i am pleased with he map.

Hey guys, made the mistake of paying some random local lad to come and plug something into my octy and upload a new map file. It was really good at first but since then the power has diminished quite a bit. Im not exactly sure if there is anything actually wrong with the engine but its never let me down in any mechanical sense. I dont really know what to check or even how to check what i don't know how to check  :wall:   I have VCDS but a really old cable and it doesn't work with the latest versions so im stuck on 12 and all the guides i keep finding make no sense as the meas blocks are in totally different places i think.

The main part of the problem is that im a tad skint and cant really afford to be backwards and forwards to a garage or tuner to see what it needs. If anyone could shed some light on the VCDS situation for me that would be amazing although not sure 100% if this is the right place for this post but will see anyways.

Cheers :)

Take it to a reputable dealer (such as Shark) and have it put back to standard.

The money spent doing this will be saved in not having to renew the clutch, DMF, turbo and DPF as soon, all items that do not take well to a performance map.

Not so bad on newer cars but all PD170 engines are getting long in the tooth now, it should be all about preservation not increased performance to minimise financial outlay between now and the cars eventual demise.
